Joined the Reds on 8/8 and went 2-2 with a 4.39 with one save in 12 games (six starts)...made his first six apps as a starter (2-2, 4.71) and his last six apps in relief (0-0, 1.93, 1sv)...began the season at Triple-A Indianapolis, where he went 7-4 with a 2.82 in 19 starts and one relief appearance and finished the season ranked T2nd in the American Association in ERA...his contract was purchased from Indy on 8/8 and the next day vs. L.A. made his first Major League appearance since 10/1/95 and his first ML start since 9/27/95...in that game threw a career-high 7.0 innings to earn the 3-2 victory, his first ML win since 6/11/95...matched his career high with 7.0 innings in his next start, a 10-inning, 5-4 loss at San Diego...suffered the 5-3 loss on 8/20 vs Colorado but had a career-high eight strikeouts...on 9/5 vs. Pittsburgh recorded his first Major League hit, an RBI-single in the fourth inning off Jason Schmidt that snapped a 2-2 tie...in the 4-3 victory on 9/25 at St. Louis, pitched a scoreless 14th inning for his second professional save (also 7/31/94 for Montreal at Florida)...made the only relief appearance of his minor league career in his first game after he came off the DL, on 6/7 vs. New Orleans (1.0IP, 1H).

Spent entire season with Triple-A Indianapolis, going 6-3 with a 2.77 ERA in 11 games started...season was cut short by a separated left shoulder suffered in June...on 5/20 and 5/25 did not allow a walk in consecutive starts (16.1IP, 1ER) and was named American Association Pitcher of the Week...was ranked by Baseball America as the league's best control pitcher (1.2 walks per 9.0IP).

1995

Was recalled by Montreal three times, going 1-2 with a 7.01 ERA in 19 games (one start)...collected his only Major-League win of the season on 6/11 at San Francisco...for Triple-A Ottawa was 2-3 with a 3.90 ERA in 12 strarts.

1994

Split the strike-shortened season between Montreal and Triple-A Ottawa...for the Expos was 1-1 with a 6.08 ERA in seven games (five starts)...suffered chronic back pain in spring training and began the season on Ottawa's disabled list...was reinstated on 5/6...on 5/27 vs. Colorado made his Major League debut and earned the victory (6.0IP, 4H, 1ER)...made four more starts for the Expos before he returned to the minor leagues...on 7/31 was recalled again and threw 3.1 scoreless innings vs. Florida to earn the save in his first career relief appearance...returned to Ottawa on 8/11, the day before the strike.

Was 7-2 with a 2.16 ERA in 16 starts at Double-A Harrisburg and was an Eastern League All-Star...was leading the EL in ERA (2.16) when he was promoted to Triple-A Ottawa on 8/7...was 2-1 with a 3.12 ERA in six starts.

Led the Midwest League and all Expos minor league pitchers in strikeouts (176) and was 14-8 with a 2.84 ERA in 27 starts...was a ML All-Star selection...among Midwest League leaders ranked second in IP (187.0), T2nd in starts and CG (7) and fourth in wins.

At Class A Sumter was 6-9 with a 3.26 ERA in 24 starts...ranked T4th in the South Atlantic League with 5 CG...allowed 2 earned runs or fewer in 18-of-24 starts.
