He began the year on a high note, continuing his success from 2005. Dempster converted a club-record 26 straight save opportunities from Aug. 2, 2005-May 1, 2006. He also converted 12 straight save situations from July 5-Aug. 14, a season high. Opponents batted .265 off him. Recorded his 300th career appearance Aug. 8.

After opening the year at Calgary (AAA), he joined Florida on May 7 and went 7-8 with a teamhigh 126 strikeouts and a 4.71 ERA in 25 starts ... on September 7 against Los Angeles, he threw 7.0 shutout innings in a 2-1 win ... in that start, he opposed fellow Canadian Eric Gagne - who threw 6.0 scoreless frames ... it was the first NL game featuring a pair of Canadian-born starting pitchers since the Cubs' Fergie Jenkins and St. Louis' Reggie Cleveland opposed each other on July 28, 1973.

Selected as Midwest League Pitcher of the Week in August, 1996 after tossing 6-0, one-hitter August 21 vs. Michigan in one of his four starts made for Kane County after being acquired by Florida... led Charleston with 23 starts and 141 strikeouts... pitched into eighth inning in 13 of 23 starts... went 4-1 in last five decisions... fired complete game, eight-hit shutout against Columbus July 28... fired a seven-inning, one-hitter to gain win June 13 vs. Capital City.

Combined to post a 4-1 record and 2.48 ERA in 1995 in nine games (seven starts) between the Gulf Coast League Rangers and Hudson Valley... averaged 9.7 strikeouts per 9.0 IP (43 SO, 40.0 IP)... tossed a 9.0-inning complete game, allowing six hits, in a win over the GCL Pirates on August 12... struck out a season-high eight in his final start at Gulf Coast, a victory over the White Sox on August 22.
