In 1991 graduated from Minnetonka (MN) High School, where he played baseball, basketball and football...played 3 seasons of baseball at the University of Minnesota, where as a junior in 1994 he was first-team All-Big 10 and won the Dave Winfield Award as the Gophers' Pitcher of the Year...that season went 7-4 with 71 strikeouts in just 70.1 innings...at Minnesota majored in speech communication...in 1985 played in the Little League World Series in Williamsport for East Tonka (MN) Little League...pitched against and defeated the Saudi Arabia entry.

2007

At Class AAA Indianapolis and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre combined to finish 5-2, 2.45 with 22 saves in 44 relief apps...participated in the Triple-A All-Star Game...began the season with the Pirates' affiliate in Indianapolis...made 6 relief apps there before he was released on 4/24...was signed by the Yankees to a minor league contract on 5/3...made 35 relief apps for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before he was promoted on 8/6...from 8/6-8/14 made 3 relief apps for NYY before he was optioned back to the minors...after 3 more apps for the Red Barons was released on 8/31...in December was signed by the Reds to a minor league contract with an invitation to Major League spring training camp.

2006

Was a non-roster invitee to the Orioles' Major League spring training camp and earned a spot on their Opening Day roster...made 12 relief apps for Bal before he was designated for assignment on 5/2...was released 6 days later...on 5/12 was signed by the Padres to a minor league contract and joined the club the next day...after 5 apps for SD was outrighted to Class AAA Portland...on 8/1 was traded to the Marlins and spent the rest of the season at Class AAA Albuquerque.

2005

Signed by the Braves on June 16 after being released three days earlier by the Giants. In 37 games with Atlanta, went 1-2 with a 4.20 ERA. Allowed just one run in his final nine appearances. With the Giants made 32 appearances and went 2-1 with a 6.53 ERA.

2004

Led majors and tied Giants franchise record with career-high 89 appearances, matching Julian Tavarez' 1997 workload...also tossed 93.0 relief innings, 3rd-most in NL and highest total by SF bullpen hurler since Craig Lefferts worked 107.0 innings and Jeff Brantley pitched 93.0 frames in 1989...was highly effective with heavy workload, tying for 4th among NL relievers in wins with 7-7 mark and career-best 3.29 ERA...also ranked 2nd in majors with 73 inherited runners, stranding 55 (75.3%)...was used in nearly every bullpen role during campaign, even earning save April 19 vs. San Diego...held right-handed hitters to paltry .209 avg. (45-for-215)...matched SF record for appearances before All-Star Break with 49, equaling Mike Jackson's 1993 output and Tavarez' 1997 total...was dominant during 25-game span April 14-May 31, when he fashioned 1.86 ERA (6er, 29.0ip)...matched early-season excellence with brilliant stretch drive...allowed earned run in just 3 of final 31 appearances, logging 1.23 ERA (4er, 29.1ip) after Aug. 5...recorded 12 of his 24 holds over stretch, while holding opponents to .218 avg. (22-for-101)...in fact, was untouchable despite working on nearly daily basis as SF fought for playoff spot...tossed 11.1-scoreless innings over his final 12 outings, yielding just 3 hits in 31 at-bats (.097).

Versatile hurler was invaluable to SF staff, saving rotation during July and serving as bullpen workhorse throughout campaign...established career standards in victories and ERA, going 8-5 with 3.96 mark in 51 games (5 starts)...made 5 starts for SF in July when Jason Schmidt and Kirk Rueter were injured and Damian Moss was plagued by ineffectiveness...went 3-2 with 4.07 ERA (11er, 24.1ip) in his opening assignments...July 1 start at St. Louis was his 1st since toeing rubber for Reds Sept. 20, 2001 vs. Cubs...defeated Cardinals and Woody Williams by 5-1 count, allowing just 1 run on 5 hits over 6.0 innings...tossed 6.0-scoreless innings in consecutive starts to defeat Colorado July 18 and Arizona July 23, allowing just 7 hits in 41 at-bats (.171)...also excelled out of bullpen, logging 5-3 ledger with 2 saves and 3.93 ERA (33er, 75.1ip) in 46 relief outings (31 scoreless efforts)...proved adept at escaping other's jams, stranding 79.3% of his inherited runners (23-of-29)...after being acquired March 24, was originally slated for triple-A Fresno...however, was recalled prior to March 31 season opener in SD, taking roster spot of disabled Robb Nen...earned victory in Giants debut April 4 at Milwaukee...entered season with just 1 career save, but posted 2 rescues during initial SF campaign...closed out Giants victories April 6 at Milwaukee and May 9 at Atlanta, both 3.0-inning efforts...made 2 appearances for Giants in NLDS vs. Florida...tossed scoreless frame of relief in Game 2 before allowing 3 runs (2 earned) over 2.0 innings of decisive Game 4.

Began season with Cincinnati, but was dealt to Montreal in exchange for Bruce Chen June 14...worked exclusively out of bullpen and posted solid year, finishing 3-2 with 4.37 ERA (39er, 80.1ip) in career-high 52 games...began season with 2-0 mark and 3.89 ERA (17er, 39.1ip) in 22 outings with Reds...logged 30 appearances with Expos, going 1-2 with 4.83 ERA (22er, 41.0ip)...while with Cincy, picked up victories April 12 at Philadelphia and May 6 vs. Milwaukee...tied career relief-high by tossing 5.1 innings May 24 at Atlanta...worked at least 3.0 frames 7 times during season, including 3 such outings with Montreal...made Expos debut June 16 vs. Toronto and earned 1st victory with new club June 27 at Pittsburgh, tossing 4.0-scoreless innings in 7-2 Montreal triumph...victory over Pirates gave him 3-game winning streak, marking career high...ended season on strong note, fashioning 1.50 ERA (1er, 6.0ip) in 5 September outings.

Was aquired by Cincinnati with RHP Robert Pugmire in exchange for C Eddie Taubensee Nov. 16, 2000...spent majority of season with Reds, going 7-10 with 1 save and 3.97 ERA in 46 games...established career highs in wins, saves, innings pitched (129.1) and strikeouts (94)...with 10 starts, fell 1 shy of career high (11 in 2000)...displayed great versatility, being inserted into Reds' starting rotation on 5 different occasions...went 4-3 with 6.02 ERA in 10 starts and 3-7 with tidy 2.70 ERA in 36 relief appearances...began campaign with triple-A Louisville, going 1-0 with 4.09 ERA in 2 starts before being recalled April 15 when Scott Winchester was placed on DL...was optioned back to Louisville May 25, but returned to big leagues May 28 without making appearance for RiverBats...started 4 of 1st 7 ML outings, including Reds debut April 15 at Mets...earned 3-1 victory over New York while collecting 1st big league hit, 4th-inning bunt single off Kevin Appier...earned 1st career save April 20, firing final 3.0 innings of 9-5 victory over Mets at Cinergy Field...logged 17 consecutive relief appearances spanning May 17 to All-Star Break...was 2-5 with 1.30 ERA over stretch, dropping overall mark from season-high 6.11 to 3.62...began 2nd half of campaign in rotation and posted 2-1 mark with 3.95 ERA in 5 starts July 14-Aug. 3...beginning Aug. 8, made 16 of last 17 appearances in relief...had 12 relief outings of at least 3.0 innings, including career relief-high 5.1 frames May 6 vs. San Diego...stranded 13 of 20 inherited baserunners (65.0%).

Split season between Cleveland and triple-A Buffalo...although he spent 2 months in majors, led Bisons with 9 victories and ranked 2nd on staff with 101.1ip while forging 3.11 ERA...was 2-3 with 6.24 ERA in 17 big league outings (11 starts)...began season at Buffalo and was recalled to Cleveland May 18 when Jaret Wright was disabled...made 1st 3 appearances in relief, including 4.0-inning stint May 24 at Detroit that was longest by Indians reliever during campaign...made 1st Cleveland start May 29 vs. Anaheim and worked career-high 7.2 innings, but did not factor in decision...spent most of June in Tribe's starting rotation...was optioned back to Buffalo July 23, going 4-2 with 2.43 ERA in 8 games (7 starts) before being recalled Sept. 1.

1999

Spent majority of campaign with Buffalo, posting 11-11 mark with 4.73 ERA in 27 starts...led Bisons in wins, starts and innings pitched (160.0), 2nd-highest mark among all Indians minor league pitchers...made ML debut Sept. 5 at Baltimore and earned 15-7 victory in relief...entered game in 4th inning and retired 13 of 16 batters faced (4.1ip,2h,0r,1bb,4so)...did not allow run through 1st 4 big league games (9.2ip) before allowing pair of solo HRs Sept. 15 vs. Boston...made 1st ML start Sept. 19 vs. Yankees, working 3.1 innings while receiving no-decision...made 2nd start Sept. 24 at Toronto and, despite allowing career-high 4 homers in 6.0 innings, earned 18-4 victory.

1998

Spent 1st season in Cleveland organization after signing as minor league free agent April 18...had outstanding campaign with double-A Akron, tying for 3rd in Eastern League for victories (13) and ERA (3.01)...led club in wins and innings pitched (155.2)...lost his 1st 4 starts, then won 11 straight decisions May 29-July 31, including 10 consecutive starts May 29-July 11...tossed pair of shutouts during stretch...went 6-0 with 1.83 ERA in June to earn Eastern League Pitcher of Month honors.

1997

Combined to go 7-13 with 5.45 ERA in 27 games (26 starts) for double-A Tulsa and triple-A Oklahoma City...ranked 2nd on Tulsa staff with 140.0 innings pitched and 103 strikeouts...was promoted to Oklahoma City Aug. 19.

1996

Split season between single-A Charlotte and Tulsa, combining for 12-10 mark with 3.79 ERA in 28 games (26 starts)...hurled 3 complete games, including 1 shutout...led Charlotte club in starts (21) and innings pitched (145.0).

1995

Ranked 2nd in Florida State League with 173.2 innings pitched and tied for 2nd with 27 starts...led Charlotte with 110 strikeouts while posting 3.89 ERA.

1994

In 1st professional season, combined to log 9-4 ledger with 2.01 ERA in 16 total starts between Texas' single-A affiliates in Hudson Valley and Charleston...recorded 16 strikeouts July 19 vs. Capital City, highest single-game total by Rangers minor leaguer that season...tossed 9-inning no-hitter with 8 strikeouts Aug. 3 vs. Columbia.
