Attended Spring Training as a non-roster invitee with Pittsburgh and went 2-1 with a 5.00 ERA in six relief appearances...Began season in the starting rotation with Triple-A Indianapolis...Allowed one run in five innings and won debut with Indy on 4/10 at Ottawa...Tossed four scoreless innings in his next start but received a no-decision on 4/16 vs. Syracuse...Picked up second win after tossing seven scoreless frames on 4/26 at Toledo...Suffered first loss on 5/1 vs. Toledo...Was placed on the disabled list on 5/12 with right elbow tendinitis...Was reinstated from the disabled list on 6/30 and tossed 0.1 inning of relief that day at Toledo...Made one more relief appearance before returning to the starting rotation on 7/8...Went 2-0 with a 2.74 ERA in five appearances (four starts) during the month of July...Suffered second loss on 8/1 vs. Toledo...Allowed two runs over 6.1 innings of work and received a no-decision on 8/7 at Louisville...Had contract purchased by Pittsburgh on 8/11...Tossed 0.2 scoreless innings in Pirates debut on 8/16 vs. Milwaukee...Allowed one run in his second appearance on 8/18 at Cincinnati...Made back-to-back scoreless appearances before allowing two runs in two innings of work on 8/25 vs. Houston...Surrendered five runs in 1.2 IP on 8/27 vs. Houston...Was designated for assignment on 8/28...Was outrighted to Indianapolis on 8/30, where he made one more relief appearance during the regular season...Was the starter and loser in a one-game playoff against Toledo on 9/5...Went 0-for-6 with an RBI at the plate with Indianapolis.

2005

With the exception of a two-game stint with Oakland from May 25 to June 3, he spent the entire season at Triple-A Sacramento...was selected by the A's on May 25 and posted a 9.53 ERA in two relief appearances...allowed five runs in 4.2 innings on May 25 at Tampa Bay, the longest outing by an A's reliever in 2005...also allowed seven hits in that game, his most ever as a reliever... pitched on June 1 against Tampa Bay and allowed one run in one inning...now has a 12.86 ERA (10 er in 7.0 ip) in four Major League appearances over the last three seasons...was designated for assignment June 3 and sent outright to Sacramento on June 6...was 6-6 with a 3.31 ERA and eight saves in 42 games (seven starts) with the River Cats...finished second on Sacramento in saves, matching his Minor League career high from 2004 with the River Cats...allowed just three home runs in 93.1 innings, or one per 31.1 innings...walked 35 and struck out 86...allowed a .253 opponents batting average, which included a .206 (218-for-136) mark against left-handed hitters and .283 (63-for-223) against right-handers...his opponents average dropped to .204 (21-for-103) with runners in scoring position...was 2-3 with a 4.99 ERA (22 er in 39.2 ip) in his seven starting assignments and 4-3 with a 2.05 ERA (12 er in 52.2 ip) in 35 relief appearances...did not allow a home run as a reliever...allowed just two runs over his first four appearances, all in relief (1 er in 11 ip, 0.82 ERA)...moved into the starting rotation on April 23 and made six starts, going 2-2 with a 4.15 ERA (16 er in 34.2 ip) before the A's called him up on May 25...tossed a season-high seven innings on May 14 against New Orleans and struck out a season-high eight in six innings on May 20 at Omaha in his final start before his promotion...tossed two or more innings in each of his first three outings following his return (10 er in 13.1 ip, 6.75 ERA) before moving to short relief on June 21...tossed one inning or fewer in 21 of his final 29 outings and posted a 1.83 ERA (7 er in 34.1 ip) over that span...did not allow an earned run over a seven-game stretch from June 26 to July 9 (7 ip)...recorded the save in three consecutive outings from July 1-5...did not allow an earned run over a nine-game stretch from July 28 to Aug. 19 (10 ip), although he was charged with seven unearned runs over that span, including five in 0.2 innings on August 11 against Round Rock...tossed 2.2 innings of shutout relief and struck out six on Aug. 13 against Fresno...did not allow a run in three postseason appearances for Sacramento (4.2 ip, 2 h, 2 bb, 5 so).
