The 24-year-old switch hitter made the Opening Day roster as a non-roster invitee after spending all of 2003, his first season in the organization, at Triple-A Pawtucket...beginning his 7th pro season, Crespo has played in the Mets, Marlins, Padres and Red Sox organizations, appearing in 80 major league games for San Diego in 2001 and 2002...in 2003, batted .267 with 31 doubles, 9 homers, 58 RBI and 13 steals for the PawSox...played 79 games in right field, 42 at second base, 9 as DH, 2 at shortstop and 2 at third base...Hit .214 (53-for-248) with 5 homers and 29 RBI in 72 games through the end of June before batting .327 (71-for-217) with 4 homers and 29 RBI in 60 games the rest of the way...that includes a .393 (42-for-107) average in 29 July contests...The switch hitter batted .287 (101-for-352) with 5 homers and 48 RBI from the left side (vs. righthanders) and .204 (23-for-113) with 4 homers and 10 RBI from the right side (vs. lefthanders)...hit .281 (63-for-224) with 7 homers and 30 RBI in 67 games at McCoy Stadium and .253 (61-for-241) with 2 homers and 28 RBI in 65 road contests...batted .368 (7-for-19) with 2 doubles and 13 RBI with the bases loaded...Hit everywhere in the PawSox lineup except 3rd and 4th...recorded a career-high 7 outfield assists...hit a pair of solo homers April 12 vs. Rochester, finishing 2-for-4...registered a 13-game hitting streak May 4-18, going 15-for-51 (.294) with 4 doubles and 2 RBI during the tear...went 4-for-5 with 2 runs scored July 5 at Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre and followed that up with a 3-for-4 effort against the Red Barons the following day...lifted his average to .243 from .224 in the 2 games...homered in back-toback games July 7 at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and July 8 vs. Charlotte...posted his 2nd 4- hit game July 13 at Rochester, going 4-for-5 with a double and 2 RBI...after stealing 6 bases in the season's first 85 games through game one of an August 3 doubleheader, stole 6 bases in the his final 47 games, including a pair in the nightcap of the August 3 twinbill at Buffalo.

Acquired by Red Sox from SD in exchange for minor lg. SS Luis Cruz on 12/16...Split the season between Portland (PCL -AAA) and SD...Was in 4 G at 2B, 1 at SS, 5 at 3B and 7 in the OF...Hit .172 in 25 G w/ SD...Recalled from Portland on 4/26...Played 92 G for Portland and hit .258 (83-32) w/17 2B, 2 3B, 9 HR and 37 RBI...Had 21 SB in 28 tries...Was 2nd on the club w/21 SB...Had a season high 6 RBI on 7/26 at Calgary (Marlins)...Hit .273 vs. RHP and .194 vs. LHP for Portland.

Acquired by SD from Fla. w/Mark Kotsay in a 5-player trade on 3/28 and began season at Portland (PCL-AAA)...Contract was purchased by SD on 5/29...Appeared at every position except 1B, P and C in his first M.L. season: 25 G at 2B, 9 G in CF, 4 G, in LF, and 1 G in RF...Earned 25 BB in only 55 M.L. games but also struck out 50 times...Made his M.L. debut on 5/29 vs. Hou as starting 2B and went 0-2 w/2 BB...Got his first M.L. hit on 5/30 vs. Hou.: a leadoff 2B off RHP Wade Miller and also scored his first M.L. run in the same inng...Collected his first M.L.
