Spent time with Chicago's (NL) Single-A Peoria Chiefs and Single-A Advanced Daytona C ... ubs, going a combined 0-3 with a 4.04 ERA in 21 games (19 starts)...tied for the second most starts on the Daytona pitching staff (17) ... Started the season with the Chiefs but was promoted to Daytona after allowing just one run in two starts...start on June 10 was his first professional appearance since September 8, 2009 with the Chicago Cubs ... On the season, posted a combined 3.44 ERA (13 ER/34.0 IP) as a starting pitcher...did not allow an earned run in nine of 17 starts with Daytona ... Recorded 28 strikeouts and allowed just five walks in a combined 35.2 innings of work...struck out four batters in two innings of work on July 17.

Angel underwent arthroscopic surgery, March 23 ... the procedure was performed by Dr. James Andrews, the same doctor who did Angel's first right shoulder surgery in July of 2003 ... had undergone arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in early February.

Angel became a reliable arm in the Cubs bullpen after recording a career-best 2.95 ERA (20 ER in 61.0 IP) in a career-high 55 relief appearances, holding the opponent scoreless in 40 outings, including 34 of his final 42... Besides his career mark of 55 games (his old mark was 15 in 2006), he also set a career high with 61.0 innings of work... Lowered his season ERA more than two and a half runs, from 5.59 in 2008 to his 2.95 mark ... previous low was a 3.56 ERA (12 ER in 30.1 IP) in 12 games (three starts) in 2007... Limited foes to a .192 batting average (41-for-214)... Held opponents to a .102 batting average (5-for-49) with runners in scoring position ... held opponents hitless (0-for-23) with RISP and two outs... Stranded 21 of 25 inherited runners, including 11 of his last 13 through July 22... Angel missed the majority of the season with a strained right elbow ... had broken camp with the major league club for the first time in his career ... underwent "Tommy John" surgery, September 6, performed by Dr. James Andrews...Had a 3.60 ERA (6 ER in 15.0 IP) in nine relief appearances compared to a 3.52 ERA (6 ER in 15.1 IP) in three starts...Made four relief appearances to start the season, posting a 2.45 ERA (2 ER in 7.1 IP) with no record before he was optioned to Triple-A Iowa April 17...Started three games for Iowa before he was recalled and inserted into the starting rotation May 6...Was in line for his first career victory in his third start of the season, May 17 in New York (N.L.), leaving the game with a 5-1 lead through five and a half innings - the Mets scored five runs in the ninth to win, 6-5...Made his final appearance of the season, June 1 vs. Atlanta, throwing 2.0-shutout innings ... landed on the 15-day disabled list the following day with a strained right elbow...Made a total of four rehabilitation starts with Rookie-League Mesa, July 7-18 and August 26-30, tossing 5.0 scoreless innings...Transferred to the 60-day disabled list August 3.
2006
Guzman finished 0-6 with a 9.28 ERA in 10 starts in his rookie season, and 0-0 with a 1.35 ERA in five relief appearances. He began the season at Triple-A Iowa, and made his Major League debut April 26 against Florida, going five innings in the start. He made his first big-league relief appearance June 13. On Sept. 16 against Detroit, he struck out a career-high eight over 5 1/3 innings of relief.
2005
Guzman continued rehabilitation on his right shoulder and split the season between Peoria (A) and the Cubs rookie level club in the Arizona League, combining to go 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA in six starts ... struck out 24 batters in 18.1 innings while walking just one batter on the year ... joined the big league club in spring training for the third consecutive year, going 0-1 in four games (two starts) in the Cactus League. © did not make his first appearance in a minor league game until August 10 ... made four starts with the Mesa Cubs (Rookie) and was unscored upon in three of his four starts ... tossed 8.0 scoreless innings, striking out 12 batters ... appeared in two games for the Peoria Chiefs, going 0-1 and allowing 5 runs (3 earned) in 6.1 innings ... pitched for the Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall League, going 1-2 with a 3.82 ERA in seven games.
2004
Angel split the season between Daytona (A) and West Tenn (AA) while rehabbing from right shoulder surgery - combined to go 3-4 with a 4.72 ERA in 11 starts during the season...walked just 4 batters in 47.2 innings on the mound...made his first appearance since June 2003 on May 13, 2004...tossing 2.2 innings for Daytona...struck out a season-high 10 batters in 5.0 innings June 8 against Vero Beach...made four starts for West Tenn, going 0-3 with a 5.60 ERA...tossed a season-high 6.0 innings June 28 at Mobile...allowed a run on 2 hits while striking out 6 batters...was on the disabled list from July 30 to the end of the season with right shoulder tendinitis...after the season, he was named by Baseball America as the 4th-best prospect in the Cubs minor league system.
2003
Angel was having a solid campaign for West Tenn (AA) before his season was cut short due to a right shoulder injury ... in his first 15 Double-A starts, he went 3-3 with a 2.81 ERA ... felt discomfort in his shoulder following his June 20 start - and was subsequently placed on the disabled list ... eventually underwent arthroscopic surgery July 8 (Dr. James Andrews) to repair a small tear in the back of his labrum ... in the June 20 contest - a 1-0 victory over Carolina - he allowed 3 hits in 7.0 shutout frames ... during his final 5 starts before the injury, he had gone 3-1 with a 1.01 ERA (4 ER/35.2 IP) ... over the span, he allowed 22 hits while striking out 37 batters ... fanned a season-high 12 batters April 21 vs. Chattanooga ... also had an 11-strikeout affair May 29 at Greenville ... prior to his injury, he had been invited to participate in the Major League All-Star Futures Game.
2002
Angel excelled during his first year at the full-season level, pitching in 25 combined games for Lansing (A) and Daytona (A) and going 11-4 with a 2.19 ERA ... in 156.0 innings of work, he allowed just 5 homers and 49 walks while striking out 123 batters...was the Cubs' minor league leader in both victories and ERA...opened the campaign at Lansing, where he went 5-2 with a 1.89 ERA in 9 starts...worked at least 6.0 innings in each of his starts -- including 7 performances of at least 7.0 innings...threw his first professional complete game April 28 at Dayton in a 9-3 win...went 4-0 over his last 6 starts, allowing 10 earned runs and 26 hits in 42.0 innings...in 16 games (15 starts) after being promoted to Daytona May 22, he went 6-2 with a 2.39 ERA ... allowed 2 or fewer earned runs in 13 of his starts...went the distance in a 1-0 loss to Ft. Myers July 13...made his only relief appearance of the campaign June 21 at Charlotte -- and worked 5.0 innings to pick up the victory (8-4)...after the season, he was selected as the 11th-best prospect in both the Midwest League and the Florida State League by Baseball America.

Was a Northwest League all-star at Boise (A) after going 9-1 with a 2.23 ERA in 14 starts ... allowed just 2 homers and 19 walks in 76.2 innings of mound work ... led the league in victories and finished 2nd in ERA ... limited opponents to a .233 average ... was selected to Baseball America's short-season all-star squad ... the publication selected him as the 4th-best prospect in the league.
