Roger Royce Ring...resides in La Mesa, CA with wife Tricia...graduated from Monte Vista High School (CA) where he won his team's "Most Valuable Pitcher" award as a senior...selected by Cleveland in the 41st round of the 1999 First-Year Player Draft, but did not sign and instead chose to attend San Diego State University...went 5-1 with a 1.85 ERA and a school-record 17 saves in junior year (2002)...was a third-team All- American and First-Team All-Mountain West Conference selection...a member of the United States qualifying team which played in Panama City in 2003 to qualify for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece...his cousin is former White Sox pitcher Bill Simas.

Split the season between Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and the Yankees...made 5 relief appearances with the Yankees, allowing 3 hits and 4 runs in 2.1 IP (15.43 ERA)...9 of 12 batters faced were left-handed hitters (3x8, BB)...selected from Scranton/WB on Sept. 15...made Yankee debut Sept. 22 vs. Tampa Bay...went 2-1 with 2 saves and 1.93 ERA (12 ER, 42.0 IP) in 52 relief appearances with Scranton/WB...led the staff in appearances, holding opponents without an earned run in 45 of the 52 outings...opponents batted .222 (35x158, 2 HR); LH .202 (18x89, 2HR), RH .246 (17x69)...made one postseason relief appearance for Scranton/WB, walking one batter in 0.1IP.

Spent the entire season with Triple-A Memphis, going 5-2 with four saves and a 3.04 ERA in 51 relief outings... ranked second on the team in appearances... held lefthanders to a .208 (15-for-72, 1HR) batting average... posted an 11.12 ERA with no decisions in seven spring training relief appearances with St. Louis... signed with the Cardinals as a free agent on 1/6/09.

Began the season with the Braves, going 2-1 with an 8.46 ERA in 42 relief appearances... faced only Pittsburgh's Adam LaRoche in each of his first three appearances of the season (3/31-4/3), striking him out each time... according to the Elias Sports Bureau, became the first pitcher since 1900 to play in three consecutive games and face the same lone batter while also striking him out each time... allowed just 1R (0ER) in June, spanning 11 games and 6.1IP... recorded a 21.94 ERA in 10 July games (5.1IP, 13ER)... over his final eight appearances with Atlanta (7/19-8/1), recorded a 31.50 ERA (4.0IP, 14ER) with a .536 opponents batting average... the 14ER allowed were twice as many as he allowed over 34 appearances from 3/31-7/6... was designated for assignment on 8/2 and assigned to Triple-A Richmond where he went 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 11 games.

Ring made 11 scoreless appearances covering five innings with Atlanta after his contract was purchased on 9/1 from Richmond (AAA). Liked the home cooking with a 1.65 ERA in 18 home games (3 ER/16.1 IP), but had a 7.36 ERA in eight road games (3 ER/3.2 IP). Of his 26 games, 17 came against the NL East (1.93 ERA, 14.0 IP). Held lefties to a .167 avg. (6-for-36) and righties to a .206 avg. (7-for-34). Retired 9-of-11 first-batters with the Braves and allowed just 2-of-14 inherited runners to score. Came in with the bases loaded and two outs and fanned R. Fick in the ninth inning on 9/7 vs. WSH. Made first Atlanta appearance on 9/1 vs. NYM with a scoreless 0.2 IP, also allowing a sacrifice fly. Was recalled from Richmond (AAA) on 9/1 (1-2, 5.68 ERA in 15 games). Held lefties to a .158 avg. while righties hit .438 off him. Started the year at Portland (AAA) and made two trips back from San Diego, combining to go 4-0 with a 1.99 ERA and .188 opp. avg. in 27 games (31.2 IP). Went 4-0 with a save and 1.23 ERA in 25 games before the all-star break. Was acquired from San Diego on 7/31 in exchange for LHPs Wil Ledezma and Will Startup and assigned to Richmond. Nine of his first 10 appearances were scoreless before allowing runs in four of his last five Padre games (7/13-7/22). Other than those five games, he allowed just one earned run in the other 21 appearances over 15.0 IP (0.59 ERA). Pitched 15 games in two stints for the Padres earlier this season (4/30-5/6 and 6/22-7/21), going 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA in 15.0 IP.
2006
Recalled from Norfolk for the first time on Aug. 1, and made four appearances before being sent back down to the Minors on Aug. 22. He returned to the big-league club with September callups, and stayed with the Mets until the end of the regular season. He was unscored upon in nine of his 11 outings, with his best peformance coming on Aug. 14 against the Phillies in the Mets' 13-0 loss. He entered midway through the game and tossed 2 1/3 perfect innings with two strikeouts. The 25-year-old lefty was named to the Triple-A All Star Game while with Norfolk, and he pitched a scoreless inning for the International League on July 12.

Was unscored upon in 11 of his 15 appearances...Made his major league debut on April 29th at Washington...Retired the lone batter he faced (Terrmel Sledge)...Earned his first career hold with a scoreless inning on June 21st at Philadelphia...Pitched a career-high 2.0 innings on May 3rd vs. Philadelphia...Struck out Eric Chavez with two runners aboard in the bottom of the eighth in a 2-2 game on June 15th at Oakland...Tossed 1.1 scoreless innings on June 10th vs. LA/Anaheim...Recalled from Norfolk (AAA) of the International League for a second time on June 2nd...Was also with the Mets from April 26th- May 5th...Pitched a scoreless inning on April 30th at Washington...Was 1-0 with one save and a 2.33 ERA in 15 games for the Tides at the time of his first recall...In 19.1 innings, he yielded 19 hits, six runs, five earned, with seven walks and 13 strikeouts...Posted one win and one save with a 0.00 ERA in four spring training games...In 3.2 innings, he did not allow a hit, run or walk while fanning three.
