Graduated from St. Francis High School in Mt. View, Calif., playing both baseball and football...graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor's degree in Political Science...was a three time All-Conference player in the Pac 10...hit a grand slam in the College World Series in 1999...took part in Mexican Winter League this past offseason...resides in Portola Valley, Calif.
2006
Spent time with the St. Louis Cardinals and Memphis Redbirds (AAA) during season, before he was released and signed with the Lotte Giants of the Korean Baseball League...Batted .250 with one RBI in eight games with St. Louis...was recalled on April 28 and appeared in two games (2 AB) before recording first ML hit of season, a pinch-hit single on April 30 vs. Washington...went 2x7 with one RBI as a pinch hitter...made lone start of season on May 2 at Cincinnati...started in left field and moved to first base...for season, made two appearances in left field and one at first base...optioned to Memphis on May 8...Began year with Memphis, where he hit .287 with six home runs and 34 RBI in 82 games...batted .383 (31x81) with one homer and 14 RBI in 20 games before he was recalled by the Cardinals on April 28...at Triple-A, appeared at first base, third base, left field and right field...also appeared in one game as designated hitter...Was released on July 19 and signed with the Lotte Giants of the Korean Baseball League.
2005
Made his Major League debut on July 26 after being recalled from Memphis (AAA) that day (Larry Walker - DL)... doubled in his first at-bat at SD off Woody Williams and finished the night 2x4 with two RBI.. was optioned to Triple-A on August 9 (Anthony Reyes) and recalled for a second time September 6... batted .271 with 13 home runs and 65 RBI in 113 games for Memphis... batted .374 (34x91) with runners in scoring position and .333 (3x9) with the bases loaded... with St. Louis, batted .357 (5x14) in the pinch with one home run and three RBI... collected his first ML RBI with two-run double (Dontrelle Willis) on August 28, the game-winning RBI in a 3-1 win vs. FLA... hit his first ML homer on September 8 vs. NYM off Tim Hamulack, a two-run pinch-hit shot in the seventh... hit a three-run home run in the third on September 20 at CIN and threw runner out at the plate in seventh inning.
2004
Spent the season at Memphis (AAA), where he batted .292 with a career-high 22 home runs and 84 RBI (2nd among Cardinals minor leaguers)... batted .352 with nine homers and 27 RBI in June, and hit .329 with six home runs and 21 RBI in April, earning Cardinals Minor League Player of the Month honors for April... earned Pacific Coast League All-Star selection and was 1x2 with RBI in left field start... hit his 20th home run on June 24, then hit just two homers the remainder of season... had a season-high 11-game hit streak from June 19-27, during which he raised his average from .314 to .330... enjoyed four-hit games on three occasions and had four two-homer games (last June 21 vs. Omaha).
2003
Named the organizational Player of the Year for the second straight season, hitting a combined .314 with 19 homers and 85 RBI between Tennessee (AA) and Memphis (AAA)...Hit .337 in the month of June with eight homers and 23 RBI. He batted .383 with runners in scoring position on the year...Got off to a slow start at Memphis hitting just .179 in April and was sent to Tennessee on 4/27. ..Played in 12 games at Tennessee and was 17-for-52 (.327) earning a promotion back to Triple-A on 5/10...Upon his return to Memphis had a six game hitting streak (5/11-17) in which he batted .520 (13-for-25), had six runs, two homers and seven RBI...Was 3-for-4 with a season-high four RBI on 6/10 vs. Fresno...Had a 14-game hitting streak from 8/1-16 hitting .414 during that stretch (24/58)...Ended the season with an eight game streak from 8/22-29 in which he hit .433 with 13 hits and seven RBI...His .312 batting average at Memphis ranked 10th among Pacific Coast League leaders.
2002
Was named the Cardinals Minor League Player of the Year...spent the entire season at Double-A New Haven starting games at third, first and in leftfield...led the Eastern League in hits (166), doubles (45), extra-base hits (68) and total bases...finished second in the league in slugging percentage (.527) and at-bats (526)...was third in the league in batting average (.316) and runs scored (82)...thrived down the stretch, hitting .357 including 40 hits, seven home runs and 25 RBI in August...hit safely in 27 of 30 games in August...excelled versus right-handed pitching, hitting .331 with 16 of his 20 homers ...collected season-high four hit games against New Britain on 4/15 and Binghamton on 4/23...was named to the Eastern League All-Star team as DH.
2001
Began season by playing 57 games with Class-A Peoria...used primarily at first and DH...hit safely in 20 of first 25 games with the Chiefs...batted .312 vs. righthanders and .275 vs. lefties...collected four hits against Fort Worth on 5/26...finished the season with Class-A Potomac...had season high five hits against Winston Salem on 6/16...produced hit streaks of nine (7/2-11), 10 (8/1-10) and 11 (6/16-29) games...hit .342 with runners on base.
2000
Signed on 6/22 and spent his first season with Class-A New Jersey...played 71 games at either first base, third base or as the DH...had his best month in July, batting .290, while hitting his only two homers of the season and had 17 RBIs...enjoyed a season best nine-game hitting streak from 7/7-16...went 4-for-5 with two RBIs against Staten Island on 8/9...belted a season-high two doubles, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs against Hudson Valley on 8/30 .
