Marcos Jose Carvajal...attended Colegio Alianza Ciudad Bolivar...on the provisional roster for Venezuela for the inaugural World Baseball Classic.
2006
The right-hander went 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA in 72 1/3 innings of relief at Double-A Montgomery. Carvajal uses a fastball, slider and changeup; he will have an opportunity to earn a spot in the Rays' bullpen in 2007.

One of eight players on Colorado's active roster for the entire season...0-2, 5.09 in 39 relief appeareances in his first Major League campaign...One of 18 major league pitchers with 30 or more appearances to not record a victory...ranked among Rockies leaders in appearances (4th, 39) and strikeouts (7th, 47)...strikeout total was 2nd-highest among Rox relievers... induced six ground-ball double plays, tied for team lead...Became the youngest player in Rockies history at 20 years, 230 days old with his Major League debut on April 6 vs. San Diego...previous youngest had been Jamey Wright, who was 21 years, 191 days old for his Colorado debut on July 3, 1996 at San Francisco...Began his career with 9.2 scoreless innings over his first six appearances through May 1, retiring each of first six batters faced and holding opponents to a .125 (4x32) average... recorded first Major League strikeout on April 18 vs. Arizona, fanning Luis Gonzalez...Tossed 5.0 shutout frames over next four outings to drop to 1.56 through May 24, but had a 9.45 ERA (13.1 ip, 14 er) over 10 games from May 27-June 29 to rise to 4.99...suffered second loss on May 29 at Chicago (NL), as he did not convert his first and only save opportunity of the season...Pitched career-high 3.2 innings June 18 at Balt., allowing 1 run, 3 hits w/5 strikeouts...Had a 1.38 ERA (13.0IP/2ER) over eight games in July, dropping season ERA from 4.99 to 3.92...pitched 3.0 shutout frames on July 27 vs. New York (NL), recording career-high six strikeouts...Made just eight appearances over season's final two months, posting a 10.61 ERA (9.1IP/ 11ER) in that span to finish at 5.09, highest figure all season...allowed five home runs over those final eight outings after permitting just three long balls in first 31 games and 43.2 innings...After tossing 1.1 scoreless frames on Aug. 23 at Los Angeles, appeared in just three of team's final 37 games, one of which was a 20-1 Colorado victory over San Diego on Sept. 20...went 1-0, 4.97 (12.2IP/7ER) in 10 relief appearances for Rockies in the spring.

Marcos was one of the South Atlantic League's top relievers in 2004, posting a 1.88 ERA in 36 appearances for Columbus (A)...compiled a 4-2 record with 1 save and 72 strikeouts in 72.0 innings...he led the Catfish in both games and relief innings...limited opponents to a .198 average against...earned a late-season promotion to Double A Jacksonville, where he pitched in one game, tossing 3.0 scoreless innings on Sept. 2 vs. Greenville...on May 3 at Greensboro, Marcos combined with starter Chuck Tiffany on a seven inning no-hitter...Tiffany pitched the first 5.0 frames and Carvajal followed with the final two in recording an 8-0 victory...from Aug. 8-25, Marcos allowed only 1 run, none earned, over his final 12.1 innings before being promoted on Sept. 2...he had a 1.23 ERA in July and a 1.04 ERA in August.

...was 2-1 with a 3.08 ERA and 2 saves in 23 relief appearances...struckout 50 batters in 38.0 innings...in 10 July appearances, was 1-0 with a 1.17 ERA, allowing two earned runs and a .167 batting average in 15.1 innings...he then recorded a 2.30 ERA in eight August appearances.

Made 13 appearances (five starts) for the Dodgers' Gulf Coast League (R) affiliate...he went 3-1 with a 0.76 ERA in his eight relief outings, 0-1 with a 2.95 ERA as a starter... opponents hit just .201.
