Was a 2000 graduate of Royal Palm Beach (Fla.) High School where he was named first-team All-County...attended Indian River CC where he was named first team All-Conference...became the third member of Boston's 2000 draft class to reach the big leagues, joining Manny Delcarmen (second round) and Freddy Sanchez (11th round)...was a "draft and follow" after his selection in 2000...his offseason activities include golfing, vacationing and going to the gym...enjoys fishing, hunting and spending time with his family...attended the 2006 Christmas at Fenway event and participated in the 2006 Red Sox Holiday Goodwill Tour.

SUMMARY: Advanced from Double-A Portand to Triple-A Pawtucket before making his Major League debut with three stints in Boston...went 1-3 with a 3.51 ERA (10 ER/25.2 IP) in seven big-league appearances (four starts) and combined to go 10-9 with a 3.66 ERA (51 ER/125.1 IP) and 116 strikeouts in 22 games (all but one as a starter) for Portland and Pawtucket...collected his first Major League win on Sept. 5 vs. the White Sox with a 1-0 win at Fenway Park, tossing 7.0 scoreless frames and limiting Chicago to only three hits and two walks, fanning a career-high six...was his first appearance at Fenway (his first four outings were on the road)...made his Major League debut July 22 in Seattle and allowed only three runs (two earned) on eight hits and two walks in 5.1 innings, fanning three, but was hit with the 5-2 loss...had only five career starts above Double-A under his belt prior to his big-league debut...was recalled from Pawtucket Aug. 22 for his second stint with Boston and was optioned Aug. 29...was recalled Sept. 5...began the season at Portland, where he went 9-2 with a 2.57 ERA in 13 starts...at the time of his June 23 promotion to Triple-A, led the Eastern League with 9 wins and his 2.57 ERA ranked 10th.
1-0 VICTOR: Earned his first Major League win Sept. 5 vs. the White Sox with a 1-0 triumph...became the first Red Sox pitcher to collect his first major league win with a 1-0 victory since Bobby Ojeda on Aug. 2, 1980 vs. Texas...he became the third pitcher in the big leagues in 2006 to earn his first win with a 1-0 victory, joining Houston's Chris Sampson (June 7 vs. the Cubs) and the Cubs' Ryan O'Malley (Aug. 16 vs. Houston).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS WITH PORTLAND: The quickest Sea Dog to nine wins in franchise history (he got there in his 13th and final start), he was named the Eastern League's Pitcher of the Week for the period of May 1-7 after going 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA (1 ER/13.0 IP) in 2 starts in that stretch, fanning 17 and walking only two in 13.0 innings...he won his final five starts leading to his Triple-A promotion, going 5-0 with a 1.45 ERA (5 ER/31.0 IP) in the five outings, including a 0.36 ERA (1 ER/25.0 IP) in his final 4 starts.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS WITH PAWTUCKET: Made his Triple-A debut June 27 and recorded a loss vs. Ottawa, allowing seven runs on eight hits and four walks in 5.2 innings...in fact, he lost his first three starts at Triple-A before breaking through with a dominating win July 13 vs. Charlotte, when he allowed just two hits and two walks in 7.0 scoreless innings...went 0-3 with a 6.87 ERA (14 ER/18.1 IP) in his first three starts at Pawtucket and went 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA (2 ER/10.2 IP) in his final two starts leading to his initial call-up on July 22.
YOUTH SHALL BE SERVED: Was one of a club-record seven Red Sox pitchers to earn his first Major League win in 2006, joining Devern Hansack, Manny Delcarmen, Lenny DiNardo, Craig Hansen, Jon Lester and Jermaine Van Buren...the Red Sox previously had six pitchers earn their first Major League win in 1940 and 1969.
2005
Went 9-11 with a 4.61 ERA in 27 outings, 25 as a starter, in his first full season with Double-A Portland...only Jon Lester (11 wins) totaled more victories for the Sea Dogs...limited lefties to a .225 batting average, while righties batted .263...won his first three starts, going 3-0 with a 1.42 ERA (3 ER/19.0 IP) through April 21...had a tough May and June, going 3-6 with a 7.13 ERA in 12 outings (10 starts) before settling down to go 3-4 with a 3.27 ERA in his final 11 starts after July 1.
2004
Started the year with Single-A Sarasota, where he was a Florida State League mid-season All-Star...won back-to-back starts April 28 and May 5, allowing two runs in 11.0 innings...earned his first career save May 22 vs. Lakeland...promoted to Double-A Portland June 19...earned Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors for August 10-16...overall, went 2-0 with 1.69 ERA in his five appearances at Portland's Hadlock Field...pitched for Peoria in Arizona Fall League.
2003
Made just two starts for Sarasota before injury shortened his season on April 10 due to a left elbow injury that required surgery, but not Tommy John ligament replacement surgery.
2002
Spent the season with Single-A Augusta...gave up two earned runs or fewer in five consecutive starts, April 19-May 11...started a tough-luck 0-4 with a 1.78 ERA that had him ranked among league leaders.
2001
Made six starts for the Gulf Coast League Red Sox...threw 2.0 no-hit frames in his first start, an 11-1 win vs. the Reds on June 29...fanned five batters in 3.0 innings, holding Reds to two hits, 0 runs in 9-0 win on July 10.
