Robert James (Rob) Johnson graduated from Butte Central High School in Montana...Attended Saddleback Junior College in Mission Viejo, CA, where he batted .380 and .492 during his two years...Hit .342 his one year at the University of Houston...A sister, Kelly, played basketball at Illinois State and presently is the head prep coach at the Air Force Academy, and another sister, Carley, played basketball at St. Mary's College in Kansas.
2011
Spent the entire year with the Padres, making 54 starts and playing in 67 games...Fashioned a 3.26 catchers ERA, the fifth-best among major league catchers with 50 or more starts and third-best among National League catchers...Tied his career-high with three hits, twice: April 16 at Houston and July 20 at Florida...Knocked in three runs for the third time in his career, August 6 at Pittsburgh...The last time was on July 3, 2009, Seattle at Boston...Over his first 13 games after the All-Star break, from July 14-August 6, he hit .268 (11-41) with four doubles, one triple and eight RBI...Hit a pinch-hit two-run double on July 31 at Colorado, the first pinch-hit of his major league career...Compiled a .271 (13-48) batting mark in July...Hit a career-best three home runs.
2010
Spent time at both Seattle and Triple-A Tacoma, making 57 starts behind the plate for the Mariners...Began the season with the Mariners, appearing in 61 games before being optioned to Tacoma 8/3...Threw out 12 of 34 (35.3%) of would-be base stealers...Hit .250 (24-for-96) in 32 road games compared to .122 (10-for-82) in 29 home games...Connected for two home runs, both against OAK...three of his five Major League homers have come against the A's...Underwent three offseason surgeries prior to the start of the 2010 season...repaired torn labrums on his right (10/15) and left hip (11/3)...also had surgery on his left wrist (11/17).

Spent first full season in the Majors...appeared in 80 games and made 75 starts behind the plate...Mariners went 46-29 (.613) in his starts...Led all ML catchers and set a club record with a 3.22 Catchers ERA (min. 75 G)...Caught Felix Hernandez in 23 of his 34 starts...Felix posted a 2.01 ERA (40 ER, 178.2 IP) in those games...Tied club record with 3 doubles July 3 at Boston...only second time a Seattle catcher has collected 3 doubles in a game (Ben Davis, 6/21/03 vs. SD)...Threw out 17 of 58 attempted base stealers (29.3%)...threw out 4 of 8 in last month of the season...T2nd in the AL with 9 passed balls...Recorded a hit in 18 of 23 games from July 1-Aug. 12...batted .300 (24x80) with 7 doubles, 1 home run and 9 RBI during the stretch...Underwent three off-season surgeries: repaired torn labrums on his right (10/15) and left hip (11/3) performed by Dr. Marc Philippon in Vail, CO...also had surgery on his left wrist on Nov. 17 performed by Dr. Carlton Keck.

Started the season at Tacoma (AAA), but finished season with Seattle after being recalled on Sept. 2...Appeared in 20 games with Seattle, including making 10 starts (7 at C, 2 at DH)...Made first career Major League start a catcher on Sept. 3 at Texas, going 0x2...Hit first career home run Sept. 26 vs. Oakland, a two-run shot off Jerry Blevins in 5th inning...also recorded first career multi-hit game...Spent majority of the season with Tacoma, leading the team in average (.305)...also set career-highs in hits (127) and doubles (30), while tying his career-high in home runs (9)...Named Pacific Coast League Catcher of the Year...threw out 37.3% of base stealers (28 CS, 47 SB), 4th-highest caught stealing percentage among catchers in the PCL...Recorded three season-high 9-game hitting streaks...June 20-July 1 (14x32/.438), July 5-20 (17x37/.459) and July 30-Aug. 9 (13x32/.406)...Recorded second career multi-home run game on June 15 at Sacramento (also: 5/30/05 at Quad Cities with Wisconsin)...went 3x4 with 2 runs scored, a double, 2 home runs and season-high 5 RBI in the game...Hit safely in 33 of his final 38 games of the season from July 5-Aug. 31, batting .377 (58x154) with 26 runs, 10 doubles, 5 home runs and 25 RBI...during this stretch raised his season average from .262 to .305...Hit .392 (31x79) with 16 runs, 7 doubles, 4 home runs and 10 RBI in 20 games in July...Had 36 multi-hit games, including 5 three-hit games and 2 season-high four-hit games (July 25 at Las Vegas and July 28 at Memphis)...Hit .315 (103x327) with 48 runs, 23 doubles, 9 home runs and 44 RBI vs. right-handed pitchers, compared to .267 (24x90) vs. lefties...Hit .327 (36x110) with 37 RBI with RISP and .333 (18x54) with RISP and 2 outs.
