Was an All-State baseball player as a junior...Attended Northwestern University, where he played baseball for three seasons (2007-2009)...Was a second-team All-Big Ten selection as a sophomore...Broke a 31-year-old school season record by posting a Big Ten-leading 22 doubles in 2008... Spent entire season with El Paso (Padres' AAA), where he made 40 appearances (31 starts) in left field, 29 appearances (22 starts) at first base, 25 appearances (18 starts) in center field and 21 appearances (15 starts) in right field...Homered twice while also collecting a seasonhigh four hits and four RBI on 6/7 at Las Vegas...Produced a .332 batting average and a .947 OPS in his final 57 games, dating back to 7/2...Hit .360 (32-for-89) with four home runs and 19 RBI in 28 games during the month of August...Was granted free agency on 11/6 and signed with Pittsburgh on 11/25.

2014

Hit .262 (122-for-466) with a career-high 22 home runs and 81 RBI in 126 games with the two teams...Was named a MiLB.com Organizational AllStar following the season.

2012

Hit a combined .291 (116x398) with 24 doubles, nine homers, 54 RBI and an .838 OPS (.388 OBP/.450 SLG) in 130 combined games between Triple A Oklahoma City (16g) and Double A Corpus Christi (114g) in 2012...ranked tied for fourth in the Texas League with a .304 batting average...named the Texas League Player of the Week for April 5-16...was also named Corpus Christi's Offensive Player of the Month for August...spent the majority of the season with Corpus Christi, but made a brief, three-week stint at Triple A OKC from June 9-29...played in 17 games in the Venezuelan Winter League

2011

Advanced three levels in 2011, combining to hit .290 (140x482) with 27 doubles, 12 home runs and 67 RBI in 132 games with Advanced Class A Lancaster, Double A Corpus Christi and Triple A Oklahoma City...progressed systematically up the minor league chain, playing one month with Lancaster, three months with Corpus Christi and one month with Oklahoma City...named Corpus Christi's Defensive Player of the Month in June and July...following the season, played for Salt River in the Arizona Fall League and hit .247 (21x85) with two home runs and 10 RBI in 22 games.

2010

Advanced to Class A Lexington in his second professional season and earned the club's MVP Award after hitting .291 (151x519) with a .363 on-base percentage, 48 doubles, 10 home runs and 98 RBI in 135 games...named Lexington's Defensive Player of the Month in April and June and the club's Offensive Player of the Month in August...earned the South Atlantic League's Player of the Week from July 26-Aug. 1...led all Astros minor leaguers with his 98 RBI on the season.

2009

Signed nine days after being drafted on June 19, spent his season with short-season Class A Tri-City...hit just .238 (45x189) but posted a .332 on-base percentage with 22 walks in his 59 games...made 47 starts in the outfield.
