2002 graduate of Archbishop Mitty (CA) High School...attended San Jose State University in 2003, batting .297...transferred to North Carolina State University from 2005 to 2006...batted .354 with 54 rbi in 63 games a Junior at NC State in 2006...also led the team that season in runs (76), homers (10), walks (45), on-base percentage (.479) and slugging percentage (.560)...named to the 2005 Cape Cod League All-Star team in 2005.

Released by the Boston Red Sox, March 31...signed minor league contract with Minnesota, May 9...spent remainder of season with Triple-A Rochester Red Wings...Went 3-for-4 with a home run in his first game with the Red Wings, May 10 vs. Louisville...Singled in seven consecutive at-bats, May 30-June 1...recorded five consecutive multi-hit games, May 30-June 3...Named Twins' Minor League Player of the Week, June 3, batting .545 (12-for-22) in six games...Batted .317 (20-for-63) in 19 May games, .333 (39-for-117) in 30 June games and .308 (24-for-78) in 25 July games...Batted .333 (82-for-246) against right-handed pitching and .277 (31-for-112) against left-handed pitching...Split the season between first base and designated hitter...Ranked third on the clubs in runs (57), fourth in hits (113), home runs (7) and total bases (157), and fifth in doubles (23)...finished third in the International League in batting average.

Appeared in 5 games with BOS, including 3 starts, in his 1st Big League stint...Split most of the year between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket...Selected to BOS's roster from Triple-A Pawtucket on 7/6 when Jeff Bailey landed on the 15-day DL...Made Major League debut that night with a start at first base vs. OAK, the 1st Red Sox player to debut with a start at first at Fenway Park since Mo Vaughn on 6/27/91 vs. the Yankees...Scored 1st ML run as a pinch-runner in the 8th inning of the Sox 1-0 win vs. KC on 7/10...Became the 1st Red Sox player to score his 1st run in a 1-0 game since Chris Mahoney on 7/14/1910 (Elias)...Recorded 1st Big League hit on 7/11, an RBI-single off KC's Roman Colon in the 8th inning after entering the game as a pinch-runner in the 7th...Went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and run scored vs. KC on 7/12...Became the 1st Sox player to record a 3-hit effort within his 1st 5 ML games since Nomar Garciaparra on 9/1/96...Optioned back to Pawtucket on 7/17, after the All-Star break. Led Red Sox minor leaguers with 28 homers, ranked 3rd with 101 RBI and finished 6th with a .306 clip (142-for-464) in 125 games between Single-A Lancaster and Double-A Portland...Failed to reach base safely in consecutive games once with the JetHawks and Sea Dogs...Spent most of the year with Lancaster...Led the California League with a .456 on-base percentage and ranked among league leaders in hit by pitch (T-1st, 19), batting average (2nd, .332), slugging percentage (2nd, .592), HR/AB ratio (2nd, 1/15.54), walks (T-3rd, 69), home runs (T-4th, 24) and runs (T-10th, 89)...Selected to the California League's Post-Season All-Star team...Named the CAL League's Player of the Week for 4/30-5/7, going 10-for-28 (.357) with 3 homers and 9 RBI...On 5/19 vs. Lake Elsinore, became the 1st player in the 66-year history of the California League to hit 4 home runs in a game...Also the 1st Red Sox farm hand to accomplish the feat since Jack Littrell of the Class D PONY League Hornell Maple Leafs on 8/15/49...Finished the game 5-for-5 with 4 runs and 6 RBI...After the season, earned MiLB.com's award for Best Single-A Advanced Single-Game Performance for his efforts in that game...Missed from 7/11-23 on the disabled list...Promoted to Double-A Portland on 8/10...Went 2-for-13 (.154) in 3 Eastern League playoff games with the Sea Dogs.

Made his professional debut with Short-A Lowell and also played for Single-A Greenville...posted a 17-game hitting streak, June 21-July 9 while with Lowell...named New York-Penn League Player of the Week, July 3-9 after hitting .480 (12-for-25) with two home runs and six rbi.
