Spent the minor league season with the Yankees' Class AAA affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes- Barre...as a September callup made his Major League debut with 3 scoreless apps for the Yankees, all in relief and all vs the Rays...was promoted on 9/6 and made his big league debut on 9/22 in the 15-8 loss at Yankee Stadium (1.1ip, 1h, 1bb)...also pitched at Tropicana Field in the Yankees' 5-2 loss on 9/26 (0.2ip, 1bb) and in the dramatic 12-inning, 8-7 loss on the final day of the regular season (0.1ip, 1bb)...for Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre went 2-5, 6.52 in his 13 starts and 1-1-1, 5.15 in his 20 relief apps...earned his only professional save in S/WB's 11-2 win at Rochester on 8/21 (3ip, 1h, 0r, 0bb, 2k)...following the season became a free agent after the Yankees declined his 2012 contract option...on 1/4/12 was signed by the Reds to a 1-year Major League contract.

Missed the professional baseball season after undergoing "Tommy John" surgery on 8/24... surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala... ranked by Baseball America as the seventh-best overall prospect entering the draft and the third-best junior in the nation... the publication also tabbed him as having the best fastball among college pitchers entering the draft... following the season was named by Baseball America as the 10th-best prospect in the Yankees organization.
