Raphael (Choo) Freeman...he has two children, daughter Dejane (6/4/96) and son Jalen (9/29/00)...a 3-sport athlete, Choo helped Dallas Christian High School to six state championships...in his senior year of 1998, DCHS won the Texas state baseball title, while Freeman was named district MVP...was also all-state in basketball...a 3-time all-state football player, Choo caught more touchdowns (50) than any player in Texas prep history and his 3,300-plus receiving yards ranked 4th in state annals...signed a letter of intent to play football at Texas A&M before the Rockies drafted him...is a relative of Twins outfielder Torii Hunter...signed by Dar Cox.

For the second straight year, Choo saw time at the major league level, but spent most of the year with Triple-A Colorado Springs...was recalled on Aug. 22 when Larry Bigbie went on the disabled list, and batted .273 (6-for-22) with a double, triple, and 6 runs scored in 18 games for the Rockies...made 5 starts in center, but saw most of his action as a pinch-hitter and pinch-runner...went 0-for-4 as a pinch-hitter...hit safely in 3 of his 5 starts, including career-high 3 hits on Sept. 24 vs. San Francisco...prior to joining Rockies, had spent entire season with the Sky Sox, batting .280 (99-for-354) with 10 HR and 59 RBI in 97 games...ranked among Colorado Springs team leaders in triples (T1st, 6), RBI (2nd, 59), hits (3rd, 99), and home runs (T4th, 10)...hit .340 (48-for-141) at Sky Sox Stadium...hit .333 (25-for-75) against lefties and .265 (74-for-279) vs. right-handers in the PCL...batted .315 (34-for-108) with RISP...played primarily center field...missed nearly all of July with a strained left hamstring suffered on July 3...hit .481 (13-for-27) over first 8 games with Sky Sox...homered in consecutive games April 19-20 at Tucson...followed that stretch with a 9-game hit streak from April 23-May 5 at .484 (15-for-31) with 10 runs scored to rise from .291 to .360...over rest of his time at Triple-A beginning May 6, hit .254 (68-for-268) to finish at .280...had a career game on June 28 vs. Fresno in a 25-7 victory for the Sky Sox...hit for the cycle in that contest, going 5-for-6 with 4 extra base hits and 7 RBI...hit a 6th inning grand slam in that game off reliever Brandon Villafuerte...was one of 3 players in the Rockies system to hit for the cycle in 2005...went 9-for-23 (.391) over final 6 games with Colorado Springs before his recall to the majors.

2004

Spent the bulk of the season with Colorado Springs (AAA) but was recalled to big leagues on 2 occasions...recalled for first time June 4 and made his ML debut that night as defensive replacement in center field against the Giants...got first start the following day (June 5 vs. SF) and went 2-for-5 with 2 runs scored...collected his first career hit in 4th inning when he singled off Kirk Rueter...played in 12 games before being sent back to the Springs on June 18...recalled again on Aug. 24, Freeman spent the rest of the year in the majors...overall, he played in 45 games for the Rockies, starting 24 in center field, and batting .189 with a homer and 11 RBI...hit his first career home run on June 9 at Yankee Stadium off Jose Contreras, the second half of back-to-back shots with fellow rookie Luis Gonzalez...a day earlier, he recorded his first career RBI, a run-scoring single in New York...opened season at Triple-A for second consecutive year and batted .297 with 21 doubles, a team-leading 7 triples, 10 homers and 50 RBI in 103 games.

2003

Freeman began the year in a 1-for-18 slide, which only turned out to be the first of many peaks and valleys the 23-year-old would experience in his first season at Class AAA...collected his first extra base hit in his 12th game, when he hit a 3-run homer at Memphis...with his average standing at .140 on April 29, Choo compiled an 8-game hitting streak from April 30-May 7 (14-for-30)...he hit .420 (21-for-50) over a 14-game span starting April 30 to elevate his average all the way up to .290 on May 13...his average would fall back down to .246 by July 5, including a span in which he had one hit in 21 at-bats...hovered around the .250 mark until spraining his left ankle on July 29 vs. New Orleans...wound up missing the next 26 games...finished out the year batting .438 (7-for-16) in 6 games after returning from the disabled list.

2002

Enjoyed a breakout season in 2002, being named a midseason and postseason All-Star by the Southern League, as well as Carolina's Team MVP...ranked among league leaders in triple (T2nd, 6) and on-base percentage (4th, .400)...was among the league leaders in batting average for most of the year, hitting .334 as late as July 19...but posted a .188 (24-for-128) average in his final 38 games to finish at .291...honored as the Rockies' Minor League Co-Player of the Month for April...participated in Double-A All-Star game on July 10 (1-for-2) and later joined the Rockies for the Hall of Fame Exhibition Game in Cooperstown, NY, on July 29 (1-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI)...hit .188 in Carolina's playoff series.

2001

Was a member of the 2001 Carolina League Champions, playing 132 games for High-A Salem...set a career high with 19 stolen bases in 26 attempts...compiled a 12-game hitting streak, May 2-13 (.354, 17-for-48)...hit .337 in June, the only month he posted a .260 average or better.

2000

Batted .266 in his first season at Salem (A)...his 7 triples ranked 3rd in the Carolina League...all 127 games came in CF...went his first 169 at-bats without a homer until going deep on May 28 vs. Lynchburg...prior to the season, Baseball America named him the top prospect in the organization.

1999

Set career highs in runs (82), hits (133), doubles (22), homers (14) and RBI (66) for Class A Asheville...hit safely in 95 of 131 games...had grand slam in the season finale, Sept. 6 vs. Hickory.

1998

Ranked 9th in the Arizona League (R) with a .320 average, while his 6 triples finished 3rd...scored at least one run in 12 straight games, T4th-longest streak in minor league baseball.
