SUMMARY: Pitched in one game for the Padres, June 7 at Oakland, allowing one run on one hit in 1.0 inning...was recalled that day and optioned back to Triple-A Las Vegas on June 9...started the season with Double-A Mobile, posting a 2.08 ERA in 14 games, before earning a promotion to Las Vegas, where he went 3-5 with a 5.97 ERA in 43 games (3 starts)...April 16-May 10, allowed only one earned run in his final 10 Double-A appearances, spanning 13.2 innings...went 2-0 with a 0.71 ERA (1 ER/12.2 IP) in his first 9 appearances with Las Vegas, but went 1-5 with a 7.28 ERA (41 ER/50.2 IP) after that...was outrighted to Triple-A on October 5 and re-signed with the Padres on November 20.

SUMMARY: Spent the entire minor league season at Double-A Mobile, before making his major league debut with 7 appearances from the bullpen during a September call-up to San Diego...worked exclusively in relief for the first time since 1995, his 2nd pro season, and made a career-high 48 appearances, 41 at Mobile and 7 with the Padres.

MAJOR LEAGUE DEBUT: Recalled on September 9, and made his major league debut that day with a no-hit, no-run 9th inning to close out a 10-3 win over the Expos at The Q...walked one and struck out 2...with one out, fanned Fernando Seguignol to record his first major league strikeout...punched out Trace Coquilette to end the game.

MORE PADRES HIGHLIGHTS: Allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 0.2 innings in his 2nd big league outing, September 12 against the Expos, before posting back-to-back scoreless outings of 1.0 inning each against the Braves and Giants...in his last 3 appearances, however, was tagged for 9 earned runs on 9 hits and 2 walks in 1.1 inning, lifting his ERA to a season-ending 21.60 from 7.38...opponents hit .692 (9-for-13) with a home run in those last 3 games.

1999 AT MOBILE: Opened the season with 2 saves and a 9.45 ERA (7 ER/6.2 IP) through April 19 before being placed on the Disabled List...returned to the mound on May 30 and allowed only 4 runs in 11.2 innings over his first 11 games back for a 3.08 ERA...surrendered only one run in 12 outings (14.1 IP), June 8-July 12...included in that stretch was a 9-game (10.1 IP) scoreless streak, June 8-July 1...allowed only 2 home runs in 51.2 innings, none in his last 17 outings (20.1 IP) after July 28.
