Edgar, who has appeared in 193 major league contests with the San Diego Padres (2008-09), joins Chicago with an invite to major league Spring Training after signing a minor league deal in December of 2011...In 193 games with the Padres, hit .255 (122-for-478) with 36 walks, 54 runs, 23 doubles, 11 homers and 51 RBI...Is a .299 hitter (1,068-for-3,574) with 508 runs, 95 stolen bases, 236 doubles, 29 triples, 80 homers and 505 RBI in 1,030 minor league contests...Played with the Yomiuri Giants in the Japan Central League in 2010...Was originally selected by Tampa Bay in the 30th round of the 2000 draft...Attended San Diego State University...Graduated from Eastlake High School in Chula Vista, Calif....named to the All-League baseball team his senior year...His younger brother, Adrian, enters his ninth major league season in 2012...the two played together with the Padres in 2008-09.

In his first full season at the Triple-A level, Edgar collected a career-high 142 hits and tied a career high with 34 doubles (set in 2003)...tied for 13th in the Pacific Coast League with a .308 batting average...Played the majority of the season at second base (94), but also made 22 appearances at third base and three in the outfield.

After signing with Florida on 4/4, opened the season with the club's High-A Jupiter team. Advanced through the Marlin's system with stops at Double-A and Triple-A...Was promoted to Carolina (AA) after hitting .293 with Jupiter. Had hits in 18 of his first 24 games at Carolina, batting .341 in May (29-85)...Hit at a .349 clip (22-for-63) out of the second slot in the line-up while with Carolina...Transferred to Triple-A Albuquerque on 7/19. Picked up his first hit on 7/21 at New Orleans and continued with a 10-game hitting streak that lasted through 8/1 (13-for-30, .433)...Hit .392 during his 46 games at Triple-A. Was hitless his first three games, but then had hits in 36 of his final 43 games...Had a second 10-game hitting streak with Albuquerque from 8/20-29 in which he batted .405 (17-42)...Played for Mazatlan in the Mexican Pacific League after the season. Batted .283 in 61 games with five homers and 25 RBI and picked up seven stolen bases...Hit .444 (8-for-18) during the first round of playoff action with the team.

Opened the year at Harrisburg (AA) and played 101 games at Double-A before an August promotion to Triple-A New Orleans...picked up his first hit at Triple-A on 8/16 vs. Omaha.

Saw his first action at Double-A, playing at Frisco in the Texas organization...rattled off a 16-game hitting streak 5/4-20 where he batted .408 going 29-for-71.
2003
Playing mostly at third base, spent the 2003 season at Class-A Bakersfield...had a 12-game hitting streak from 7/30- 8/12 in which he hit .340 (16-47) with seven RBI...followed that with a five-game streak where he batted .500 (10-20)...had two four-hit games to end the year, 8/30 and 9/1 vs. San Jose...hit a combined .406 (43-for-106) in his final 28 games with 28 RBI.
2002
Played a career-high 134 games at Charleston, S.C. (A) ...most of those games at third base (128) with just one game played at second...hit .394 (39-99) with 12 doubles, homer and 17 RBI over 30 games in May...went 4-for-4 with a double, triple and four RBI on 7/16 at Asheville.
2001
Spent the entire season at Class-A Hudson Valley...led the New York-Penn League in hits (92) and total bases...his .332 batting average ranked second in the league...batted .345 in June and July (50-for-145)...in addition to being the DH, played five different defensive postions: second and third base, shortstop, leftfield and centerfield.
2000
Began the year at Hudson Valley (A) before playing his final 20 games at Princeton (R)...hit .350 at home (20 games) with Hudson Valley compared to .125 on the road...played majority of his games at third with Hudson Valley (34) and at shortstop with Princeton (14 games).
