Jason Drew Michaels...played collegiately at the University of Miami and Okaloosa-Walton JC...at Miami in 1997, hit team-best .411 with 50 extra-base hits, including 32 doubles, and 89 RBI...helped the Hurricanes reach Omaha...as a senior in 1998, batted .384 with 19 home runs...was inducted into the University of Miami Hall of Fame in 2009...the only 2 previous Hurricanes to play for the Nationals were Alex Cora (2011) and Kenny Kelly (2005)...graduated from Tampa (FL) Jesuit High, whose alumni include Lou Piniella, Dave Magadan and Brad Radke, among others...was drafted 3 times prior to signing with PHI in 1998: SDP (1994, 49th round), TBR (1996, 44th round), STL (1997, 15th round).

Hit .224 with eight home runs and 53 RBI in 123 games with the Indians (21 games) and Pirates (102 games)...ranked third among National League pinch hitters in RBI (13) behind Atlanta's Greg Norton (17) and Philadelphia's Greg Dobbs (16)...began season with Cleveland and was their Opening Day starter in left field...made 15 appearances (11 starts) in left field and six appearances (five starts) in right field while playing with Cleveland...was designated for assignment on May 6 and acquired by Pittsburgh on May 8...his first home run with the Pirates was a pinch-hit grand slam off Adam Wainwright at STL on June 2...homered again in following at-bat on June 5 vs. HOU; a three-run shot off Brandon Backe in the 1st inning...was ejected by home plate umpire Jerry Meals after arguing called strike on June 8...tied for second on team with 15 RBI in June...hit first career walk-off home run on July 12 vs. STL; a two-run shot off Chris Perez in the bottom of the 10th inning...homered as a pinch hitter on July 26 vs. SD...was ejected by home plate umpire Paul Emmel after being called out on strikes on Sept. 13 vs. STL...hit .281 (18x64) with four home runs and 18 RBI while coming off the bench for Pittsburgh...made 25 starts in right field, 13 in left field and six in center field for the Bucs...went 9x45 (.200) with two home runs and a team-high 13 RBI as a pinch hitter.
