Graduated in 1996 from North High School in Springfield, Ohio...participated in baseball and basketball in high school and was an All-Area selection in baseball...attended the University of Illinois where he was a two-time All Big Ten and All-Midwest Region selection...he was also a second team Baseball America All-American and second team Coaches Association All- American...was a member of 1998 Big Ten Championship team with the Fighting Illinois...did not pitch in 1999 after undergoing Tommy John surgery to repair ligament damage in his right elbow...he was scouted by Scott Melvin...makes his off-season home in Walton, Ky....name is pronounced JUR-nell.

1999

Signed his first professional contract on 8/12 and did not pitch professionally...had "Tommy John" surgery on his right elbow.

2005

Spent most of the season at Class AAA Memphis, where he made 34 relief apps...from 4/18-5/2 made all 5 of his relief apps for the Cardinals...on 8/17 was outrighted off StL's Major League roster...following the season became a free agent.

2004

His season was quickly haulted on 4/16 when he went down with right shoulder tendinitis after having appeared in just four games. His final game appearance came 4/15 vs. Colorado Springs when he fanned two in 1.0 IP.

Earned a save in his season debut 4/9 vs. Albuquerque. Five of the eight outs he recorded on the year were by K's.

Underwent shoulder surgery on May 17 for labrul debribement and missed the remainder of the season.

2003

In his fourth professional season, Jimmy made 40 appearances at Memphis (AAA) and seven at St. Louis...Appeared in 40 games overall at Memphis - the first seven as a starter and the last 33 in relief. He went just 1-5 with a 5.54 ERA as a starter, but was 5-1, 2.43 (11 ER/40.2 IP) in relief...He allowed only three home runs in 78.0 innings pitched at Memphis and none in 9.0 innings of work for St. Louis. ..Worked in 27 games at Memphis before his 6/27 recall to the Cardinals...Jimmy made his Major League debut on 6/29 at KC. He pitched the eighth inning and allowed two runs on three hits, with two walks and a strikeout in a 13-6 Cardinals win. After he walked the leadoff batter, Jimmy fanned Carlos Beltran for his first career strikeout...Was optioned back to Memphis on 6/30...In his last 13 games at Memphis (7/4-8/8), Jimmy posted a 2-0 record with five saves and a 3.29 ERA (5 ER/13.2 IP). He fanned 17 batters in that stretch...Was recalled from Memphis (AAA) on 8/11 - his second stint with the Cards. ..He worked a career-high 2.2 innings on 8/17 at PHI, allowing three walks but no hits and no runs...He was placed in the 15-day disabled list on 8/23 (retroactive to 8/18) with a right shoulder sprain...Came off the D.L. on 9/6 and pitched in four more games the rest of the season.

2002

Split the season between Double-A and Triple-A and ranked eighth among Cardinals minor league starters with a combined 3.05 ERA...Opened the season at New Haven (AA) of the Eastern League and went 3-3 with a 2.70 ERA in 10 starts...While at New Haven, he struck out 66 batters and walked just 18 in 66.2 IP. He also held righthanders to a .198 BA and limited lefties to a .222 mark...Struck out a season-high 12 batters in 7.2 IP vs. Erie on 5/20...Allowed just three hits in 8.2 IP at Bowie on 6/11, but lost a 1-0 decision when he allowed a two-out solo homer in the bottom of the 9th. The Ravens had six hits, but left the bases loaded in the 1st and 9th innings...In his last four starts for the Ravens he went 2-2 with a 2.08 ERA and a .181 opponents batting average...Was promoted to Memphis (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League in June. His first start for the Redbirds was a loss at Omaha on 6/27...Went 2-4 with a 3.68 ERA in seven starts at Memphis...Fanned 10 batters in 7.0 IP in his last appearance of the year vs. Oklahoma on 8/28.

2001

Earned a host of honors, including the Cardinals Minor League Pitcher of the Year selection. Was named the Cardinals top minor league performer for 2001 by Baseball America and was named to the second team starting rotation in Baseball America's Minor League All-Star selections following the season. Was named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Year and drew selection to the league's postseason All-Star team. ... Led the Class-A Carolina League with a 2.50 ERA. He finished second in the league in both wins (14) and strikeouts (156). ... Led the Cardinals farm system with a combined 15 wins between Potomac and New Haven and tied Rick Ankiel for the organizational lead in strikeouts with 162. ... Didn't allow an earned run in three consecutive starts (20 IP) from 4/25 to 5/6. ... Three of his six losses at Potomac came in consecutive starts between 5/11-23. ... He went 4-0 with a 1.15 ERA in six starts from 6/8 to 7/6 and was a perfect 6-0 with a 0.23 ERA in July. ... Following a loss on 6/3, he would go on to win his final 11 decisions for Potomac, the longest winning streak in the minors since New Haven pitcher Greg Wooten won 12-straight in 2000. ... He posted a 1.23 ERA over his final 15 starts, yielding two or more runs in just two of those 15 games. He allowed just one earned run in a 53 inning stretch from 6/26 to 8/3. ... Extended his streak of having not allowed an earned run to 35.1 IP with six scoreless innings in a 11-6 win vs. Wilmington on 7/28. The earned runs streak ended at 42.1 IP, the longest such streak in the minors for 2001. ... Threw a 7-inning no-hitter for New Haven on 9/2 vs. Bowie in a 3-0 opening game win of a doubleheader. The start was his first at Class AA and snapped a nine-game Ravens losing streak. He fanned six in the win and faced the minimum 21 batters while posting the Eastern League's fifth no-hitter of the 2001 season.

2000

Began his professional career at New Jersey and made 13 appearances (12 in relief)...he fanned 39 batters in 32.0 IP and held the opposition to a .111 BA.
