Jolbert Cabrera attended Confenalco High School in Cartagena, Colombia...In addition to playing baseball, he also played basketball and ran track in high school...Is the older brother of Cincinnati Reds shortstop Orlando Cabrera...His father Jolbert, a former major league scout, signed Edgar Renteria for the Florida Marlins.
2009
Saw action at first base (23 games), shortstop (23 games), third base (15 games), rightfield (13 games) and leftfield (one game) for Norfolk (AAA) of the International League...Hit .288 (30-104) in 28 games in June...For the season, he had 19 games with two hits and three games with three hits...Knocked in four runs twice during the year, April 13th vs. Charleston and July 6th vs. Gwinnett...Was hitting .210 (29-138) after the games of May 27th...Fashioned a .308 (48-156) batting average over the last 42 games of the year to bring his final mark to .268...Hit safely in 30 of those 42 contests.
2008
Saw his first major league action since 2004...Made 27 starts for Cincinnati: two at second base, one at third, seven at shortstop, 15 in leftfield and two in right...On September 6th, he hit his first career grand slam vs. Chicago (NL) off Carlos Marmol.
2007
Combined to hit .265 in Class AAA for StL's Memphis affiliate and Col's Colorado Springs affiliate...also made 1 appearance at Class A Palm Beach...began the season in the Cardinals' organization...was released on 8/14...2 days later was signed by the Rockies and spent the rest of the season in Colorado Springs...following the season played for Guasave in the Mexican Pacific League (56g, .305, 15 2b, 3hr, 19rbi, 9sb).
2006
For the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks of the Japanese Pacific League made 54 apps in the OF, 39 apps at 3B, 10 apps at 1B and 2 apps at 2B...the Hawks defeated the Seibu Lions in the first round of the playoffs but were swept by the Nippon Ham Fights in the league championship.
2005
For the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks of the Japanese Pacific League hit .297, 12th-best in the league... with 135 hits ranked 10th in the JPL...lost the league championship series to Chiba Lotte.
2004
Was traded to Seattle Mariners on 4/3 where he again spent the season playing a variety of positions defensively, including all four infield and all outfield spots...had three hits and scored three times on 5/15 at NYY...hit .328 in May (22-for-67) over 18 games...scored in six-straight games played from 7/6-17.
2003
Was the Dodger's most versatile player, appearing at seven different postions (1B, 2B, 3B, SS, LF, RF, CF) and starting at six (all but center)...became the first Dodger to start at six positions since Cory Snyder in 1994...was one of just four big leaguers to play seven different positions and one of just three to start at six...became just the fifth player in National League history to amass 30 doubles in less than 350 at bats in a season...of his first 24 hits, 15 went for extra bases, including six of seven during one stretch...finished the year wtih 40 extrabase hits in a career-high 98 total hits...batted .333 (42-for-126) with 14 doubles in his last 44 games...made his first career Opening Day start and had two hits...went 2-for-3 with two home runs on 7/12 at COL, marking the first multi-homer game of his career...made his first career start at first base on 7/30 at PHI...had a pinch-hit, game-winning double in the top of the 10th inning on 9/24 at SD.
2002
Acquired from Cleveland by Los Angeles for left-handed pitcher Lance Caraccioli on 7/22...was assigned to the Dodgers Triple-A Las Vegas club...was recalled on 8/24 and appeared in 10 games with LA...apeared in 38 games for the Indians before being optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on 7/12...was originally recalled from Buffalo on 5/2 after spending the first month of the season rehabbing from a gunshot wound to the buttocks suffered during the offseason...was shot in the right buttocks in an attempted car-jacking in his hometown of Cartagena, Colombia on 12/21/01...bullet was removed on Christmas morning.
2001
Spent his first full season in the Major Leagues, making starts at six different positions...appeared in a career-high 141 games and registered then career-bests in virtually every offensive category, including hits, at-bats, doubles, runs scored and RBI... appeared in 36 games in left field, 35 in center, 18 in right, 27 at third base, 14 at shortstop and 28 at second base...set a career high with three runs scored on 4/12 at DET...equaled it on 7/27 at DET...collected a career high four RBI on 5/15 at TEX...also collected three RBI in the Tribe's 12-run comeback on 8/5 vs. SEA ... played in 29 games for Zulia in winter ball in Venezuela, batting .287 with 12 doubles and 14 RBI.
2000
Began the season at Buffalo (AAA) before being recalled on 4/30 where he spent the remainder of the season...made 35 starts for the Indians: four at second, two at short, four in left field, 21 in center field and four in right field...hit .279 (34-for- 122) when he started...made just one error in 149 total chances for a .993 fielding pct. and had three outfield assists...collected his first M.L. triple on 5/4 vs. TOR and first career RBI on 5/5 at TOR...collected a career-high five hits on 7/29 at BAL, going 5- for-5 with a double, run scored and RBI...hit his first M.L. home run on 8/4 off ANA's Mike Fyhrie.
1999
Split the season between Cleveland and Triple-A Buffalo after opening the year on the Major League roster...collected first M.L. hit on 5/5 vs. SEA, a single off Jeff Fassero...was optioned to Buffalo on 6/9, but returned to Cleveland from 8/7- 16, 8/24-27 and 9/10 to the end of season...played winter ball with Zulia in the Venezuelan Winter League and hit .252 with six doubles, five RBI and 12 stolen bases in 37 games.
1998
Had his best professional year to date with Triple-A Buffalo...was selected to appear in the Triple-A All-Star game, named to the International League post-season All-Star team and made his Major League debut in April...was assigned to the Buffalo roster to start the season, but did not start there as he had his contract purchased by the Indians on 4/6 when Enrique Wilson went down with torn ligaments in his thumb...made his Major League debut on 4/12 vs. ANA...was outrighted to Buffalo on 4/20 where he spent the remainder of the season...led Buffalo with 48 multi-hit games, 25 stolen bases, 157 hits, 24 doubles, 69 walks and 129 games played...his .318 average ranked fifth best in the International League while his Buffalo franchiserecord 157 hits also ranked fifth in the league...his batting average was second best among Tribe minor leaguers, as were his hits and runs scored...hit in 21 straight games from 6/11-7/2, batting .366 (34-for-93) with 23 runs scored.
1997
Signed with Cleveland in December, after spending the first 8 years of his career in Montreal's organization.
