Juan Miguel Padilla graduated from Visual Arts High School in Santurce, PR...Played two years of baseball at Tallahassee Community College and then went on to Jacksonville University...Was a Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference selection in 1998...Inducted into the TCC Hall of Fame on Feb. 16, 2006...Juan and his wife, Ericka are currently sponsoring a little girl from Africa through Compassion International...In addition, they sponsor two little league teams in Puerto Rico...Created his own non-profit agency "Pro Dream Agency" to assist other non-profit agencies in Puerto Rico obtain funds...Invests heavily in the St. Jude's Children's Cancer Research Hospital.

Underwent successful surgery on his right elbow on April 13th to repair a partial tear of his flexor tendon...Mets Medical Director Dr. David Altchek performed the procedure at the Hospital for Special Surgery.
2006
Placed on the 60-Day Disabled List on March 26 and did not pitch again after undergoing surgery on his right elbow...Had Tommy John surgery on March 14 at New York's Hospital for Special Surgery...Dr. David Altchek performed the procedure...Was named to the Puerto Rican World Baseball Classic squad, but did not pitch due to soreness in his right elbow.

Tossed a career-high 12.1 scoreless innings from September 14th through the end of the season...Allowed only five hits during that span...Stranded 13 of 17 inherited runners (76 percent)...Did not permit an earned run in 19 of his 24 games...Also retired 22 of 24 first batters faced (92 percent)...Held lefthanded batters to a .153 (9-59) average and righthanded hitters to a .203 (15-74) mark...Went 1-0 with one save and a 0.89 ERA (two earned runs/20.1 innings) in 13 games at Shea...Posted a 1.02 ERA (two earned runs/17.2 innings) in 12 games vs. National League East opponents...Recorded a 0.79 ERA (one earned run/11.1 innings) in nine games in September and a 0.96 ERA (one earned run/9.1 innings) in six contests in July...Had five holds...Won his third game of the year in a 3-2 victory at Philadelphia on September 27th...Hurled 2.0 scoreless innings...The three victories established a career-high...Posted his second win with 1.2 scoreless innings on September 25th at Washington in a 6-5 triumph...Also collected his first major league hit, a single, in the eighth inning in that contest...Earned his first win with New York and second career victory on August 30th vs. Philadelphia in a 6-4 triumph with 1.0 scoreless inning...Hurled a career-high and bullpen season-high 4.1 innings on August 21st vs. Washington...Allowed one run...His previous career best was 2.2 innings, done twice, last, July 27, 2004, with the Yankees at Detroit...Stranded the bases loaded in the eighth inning and pitched a scoreless ninth to record his first major league save in a 7-3 win on July 20th vs. San Diego...Tossed a scoreless inning in his Mets debut on July 17th vs. Atlanta...Had his contract purchased from Norfolk (AAA) of the International League on July 16th...Was 3-2 with 11 saves and a 1.44 ERA in 36 games for the Tides...Opponents hit .197 (45-228) against him at Triple-A...Selected to the Triple-A All-Star Game in Sacramento, CA on July 13th...Pitched 1.0 scoreless inning for the International League in that game...Was 3-1 with a 3.33 ERA and one save in 17 games in relief for Caguas in the Puerto Rican Winter League...In 24.1 innings, he allowed 26 hits, nine runs, earned, with eight walks and eight strikeouts.
