Terrence Lee Gardner...attended Central Michigan University...went 8-4 with a 2.45 ERA in 15 games in 1998, earning All-Mid-American Conference honors...was 8-4 with a 3.77 ERA in 14 games for Central Michigan in 1996, and 4-3 with a 2.96 ERA in 1995...he and wife, Leslie, have two daughters, Ella (7/1/03) and Abigail (3/8/05).
2007
Appeared in 62 games with Marlins, going 3-4 with two saves and 1.94 ERA ... his earned run average was second-lowest among NL relievers (5th in MLB) who pitched 70.0+ innings of relief, behind only Atlanta's Peter Moylan (1.80 ERA) ... it marked the lowest single- season ERA by a reliever in Marlins history, eclipsing the mark set by Robb Nen (1.95 ERA, 18 ER/ 83.0 IP) in 1996 ... After he was recalled by the Marlins for final time on June 29, went 2-2 with one save and 0.78 ERA (4 ER/ 46.1 IP), the lowest ERA among Major League relievers (min 30.0 IP) over that span ... went 1-2 with one save and 3.86 ERA during first three stints (of four) with Marlins ... was with club from Opening Day until he was optioned to Albuquerque (AAA) April 11 ... was also with club from April 18-May 31 and June 13-18 ... Recorded first two saves of Major League career, was 2x2 in save opportunities ... notched first ML save April 8 vs. Philadelphia, striking out one in 0.2 inning ... recorded save September 26 vs. Chicago-NL, holding Cubs to one hit in 1.0 inning ... only 10 of 37 (25.6%) inherited runners came around to score ... Spent all of 2006 in Detroit's minor league system, going 5-5 with 30 saves and a 2.92 ERA in 58 games at Toledo (AAA)...tied his career high for saves in a season, which he set in 2003 with Durham (AAA)...Went 2-0 with 10 saves in 19 appearances after July 20...allowed just one run (earned) over 20.1 innings pitched during that stretch, striking out 15 batters, walking five, and allowing just nine hits...His 58 appearances in 2006 was a new career high, eclipsing marks of 57 in 2003 and 2004...Went 23 games (25.0 innings) without giving up a home run, between April 22 and June 19...was 1-2 with 13 saves in that span...Went 0-0 with 3.91 ERA in 22 games with Hermasillo in the Mexican Winter League.
2005
Appeared in five games for Tampa Bay in June, going 0-0 with a 4.91 ERA over 7.1 innings...spent rest of season with Durham (AAA), going 4-3 with a 3.29 ERA and 15 saves in 52.0 innings...opened the season strong, going 1-0 with five saves and a 1.59 ERA in 11 appearances in April, while holding opponents to a .167 (7-for-42) batting average.
2004
Spent the entire season in the San Francisco system, at Fresno (AAA)...His 57 appearances tied a career high and was good for fourth-most in the Pacific Coast League...recorded a 2.10 ERA in his first 28 appearances (30.0 IP, 7 ER) through June 4...suffered a 6.20 ERA over his final 29 appearances after June 4...was out from July 17 to August 8 with a right groin strain.
2003
Spent season at triple-A Durham, helping Bulls to International League championship...was named IL Relief Man of Year with 82 points...established career high in saves (30), losses (7) and games finished (49)...paced loop in saves and games finished, while ranking 2nd in appearances (57).
2002
Completed 5-year journey to big leagues in 2 stints with Tampa Bay...overall, made 12 relief appearances for Devil Rays, going 1-1 with 4.05 ERA...limited opponents to .235 avg...had contract purchased from Durham May 17...made Major League debut May 24 at Oakland, working 2.0-scoreless frames in 9-8 defeat...was designated for assignment June 1 and outrighted to Durham June 5...contract was purchased by Devil Rays Aug. 18...earned 1st big league victory Aug. 31 at Texas, working 2.0-scoreless innings in 7-5 victory...was designated for assignment Sept. 19...despite time with big club, was still named International League All-Star reliever while leading league in relief points (77)...also ranked 2nd in circuit with 25 saves.
2001
Split campaign between Durham and double-A Orlando...equalled career high with 57 appearances combined...established career standard in wins, while going 5-2 with 2 saves and 2.67 ERA.
2000
Finished 2nd amongst Tampa Bay farmhands with 17 saves between Orlando and Durham.
1999
Was limited to 21 games between single-A St. Petersburg and Orlando...fashioned 1.96 ERA with St. Pete over 20 outings.
1998
Was signed as non-drafted free agent and opened professional career at St. Petersburg...after 3-scoreless appearances, was transferred to single-A Charleston of South Atlantic League.
