Luis began the season at Triple-A Norfolk before he was recalled by Baltimore, April 16 ... appeared in 26 games for the Orioles, but landed on the disabled list with a strained left oblique from June 21-August 13...Appeared mostly in left field for Baltimore, playing 17 games there, including eight starts ... played two games in right field and one in center field...Started the year hitting .259 (7-for-27) with five RBI in seven games for Norfolk when he was promoted, April 16...Recorded his first career stolen base, April 23 at Boston...Officially placed on the D.L., June 26 (retroactive to June 21) ... was activated and optioned to Norfolk, August 13...All told, hit .289 (28-for-97) with 20 RBI in 24 games for the Tides...Had an eight-game hitting streak for Norfolk, August 22-29, batting .371 (13-for-35) with three doubles, a triple, a homer and nine RBI.

Opened season with Triple-A Norfolk before being recalled April 21 when Ryan Freel was placed on the 15-day disabled list...Was batting .429 (18-42) with three doubles and three RBI in 10 games for the Tides...Was placed on the 15-day disabled list May 26 after tearing ligaments in his right thumb attempting to make a diving catch May 2 @TOR...Played in nine games after injuring the thumb before being placed on the disabled list and having surgery...Was reinstated from the 60-day disabled list on September 19 after Nolan Reimold was placed on the disabled list...Recorded multi-hit games May 9 vs. NYY, May 12 vs. TB and October 3 vs. TOR...Hit his only home run of the year on May 9 vs. NYY (Ramirez)...Batted .340 (17-50) with four doubles and seven RBI in 23 spring training games before being optioned to Norfolk on March 31...Had two-game rehabilitation stints with Rookie-level Sarasota, Class-A Frederick and Double-A Bowie

Batted .288 (96-333) in 100 games in stops at Bowie (31) and Norfolk (69)...Hit safely in 10 straight games for the Baysox, August 25-September 3, batting .381 (16-42) during the streak.

Split the season between AA West Tennessee and AAA Iowa in the Chicago Cubs organization, combining to bat .277 (107-386) with 23 doubles, 10 homers and 56 RBI...Hit safely in 29 of 38 games for West Tennessee, with 15 multi-hit games...Had a season-high 9-game hitting streak, May 4-12, in which he batted .611 (22-36) with 12 runs scored and 12 RBI...Raised his season batting average from .292 to .384...Finished the streak with two 3-hit games sandwiched around back-to-back 4-hit games, going 14-for-18 with 4 doubles, a homer, 7 runs and 10 RBI...Went 4-for-4 on May 10 at Mississippi and came back the next night to go 4-for-5...Played a day game for West Tennessee on April 25 at Chattanooga, going 2-for-4, and was promoted to Iowa that day because of injury...Arrived at Round Rock in time to make a pinch-hit appearance in the AAA game that night before returning to AA...Was leading the Southern League in batting when he was promoted to Iowa on May 18 for the remainder of the season...After going 1-for-9 in his first 4 games with Iowa, had 2 hits in 4 of his next 5 games, raising his average on May 27 to .300...Had only 6 more multi-hit games the rest of the season with Iowa...Was batting .250 through his first 27 games with Iowa, but hit just .211 (34-161) the rest of the season...Hit a grand slam on August 12 at Memphis...Also drove in 4 runs and had his only 3-hit game for Iowa on July 16 at Albuquerque...Played primarily right field with West Tennessee and almost exclusively in left field with Iowa.
2005
Split the season between Class A Peoria and AA West Tennessee to bat .293 (137-468) with 37 doubles, 3 triples, 16 home runs and 62 RBI...Spent the first half of the season at Peoria and was named to the Midwest League All-Star team after batting .305...Finished 3rd on the Chiefs with 28 doubles despite playing only 82 games there...Was batting .235 before hitting safely 8 of 9 games, 5/6- 5/14...Went 17-for-38 with 8 doubles to raise his average to .294...After slipping to .277 on 5/20, he hit safely in 20 of his next 22 games, batting .375 (36-96) with 19 RBI to raise his average to .315...Went 5-for-6 on 5/23 vs. SW Michigan...Went 3-for-5 with 3 doubles on 7/5 at Kane County...Was selected to play for the World squad in the All-Star Futures Game in Detroit, going 1-for-3...Was promoted to West Tennessee following the break and, after hitting .111 in his first 6 games, hit safely in 13 of 15 games (.469, 23-49) from 7/21-8/6 to raise his average to .325...Batted just .211 (16-76) over his last 24 games.

Was selected as a Northwest League mid-season and post-season All-Star...Began the season for the 3rd straight year at Daytona before being sent to Short-A Boise in June...Combined to bat .278 (96-345) between the teams...Played second base to start the year at Daytona but hit only .215 in 21 games before being sent to extended spring training in early May...Was moved to the outfield there and played primarily left field and DH after going to Boise...Was batting .400 (50-125) through 34 games at Boise, with 16 multi-hit games...Batted just .206 (29-141) the rest of the season.
2003
Spent his 2nd season with Daytona...Again got off to a slow start, batting just .195 (17-87) through his first 20 games...Went 4-for-6 on 4/24 vs. Palm Beach, a season-high for hits, and went on to bat .266 the rest of the season...Had a season-high 9-game hitting streak, 5/23-6/1, batting .467 (14-33) to raise his average from .227 to .256...Average reached a season-high .260 five times between 6/4 and 6/24...Went hitless in back-to-back games only 8 times...Hit .264 (33-125) off lefties and .249 (90-361) off right-handers.

Spent the season at Class A Daytona...Hit just .173 (14-79) through his first 20 games, but batted .282 the rest of the season starting April 27...Hit safely in 23 of 26 games, 6/12-7/15, batting .345 (38-110) to raise his average from .240 to a season-high .274...Played 101 games at shortstop and 22 games at second base...Batted .233 (30-129) vs. left-handed pitchers and .277 (99-358) off right-handers... Went hitless in 2 or more consecutive games just 10 times, including a season-high 3-game hitless stretch 7/27-30.

Was named to the Midwest League's midseason all-star team while spending the season at Class A Lansing...Was batting .210 through his first 20 games, then hit safely in 15 of 18 games, 4/30-5/24, hitting .348 (24-69) with 15 RBI, to raise his average to a season-high .273...After his average fell to .238 in mid-August, he hit safely in 17 of his last 19 games with an at-bat, batting .342 (27-79) to raise his average to final .255.

Spent most of the season with the Cubs' rookie-level entry in the Arizona League before being promoted to Class A Lansing for the final week of the minor league season... Was selected by Baseball America as the best prospect in the Arizona League and was named to the publication's Rookie level allstar team after hitting safely in 38 of 50 games for the Rookie level Cubs...Earned Arizona League MVP and post-season all-star honors...Had 20 multi-hit games, including 6 of his first 9 pro outings...Average declined each month, however, batting .480 in June, .367 in July and .273 in August in the Arizona League...Combined to bat .317 (70-221) between the two teams.
