In 1999, opened season at double-A Orlando but spent most of campaign with Durham before making Major League debut with Tampa Bay in June...Combined to post 8-2 record with 4.24 ERA (91.1 IP - 43 ER) in 17 starts between Orlando and Durham...At Durham, went 4-0 over final 10 starts, not allowing more than three earned runs in any outing...Allowed just three runs-or-less in 13 of 15 starts with Bulls...Had contract selected by Tampa Bay, June 9, and made Major League debut (start) June 12 at Montreal, defeating Expos 5-3 (6 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 SO)...Also went 2-for-3 with an RBI in his first at-bats since high school...Became second Devil Rays draft pick to reach major leagues (Ryan Rupe)...Faced three batters in next start, June 18 at Minnesota, before leaving with tightness in left hamstring and placed on 15-day DL next day...Was optioned to Durham July 6th after reinstatement from DL...Took no-hitter into eighth inning with Durham at Toledo July 1 and won 5-2.

Split the season between Orlando and Durham and tied for third in the organization with 10 wins...opened the season at Orlando and went 5-6, 4.42 (44 ER/89.2 IP) in 18 games (17 starts)...promoted to Durham on July 21 and went 5-3, 4.53 (24 ER/47.2 IP) in 9 games (8 starts)...loaned to the Seattle organization from April 2-July 21.
