Resides in Tampa, Fla., during the offseason...Selected by Boston in the 13th round of the June 1998 draft out of Ridgewood High School in New Port Richey, Fla., but he did not sign....Hit .365 (74-for-203) with 10 home runs and 58 RBI at the University of Tampa in 2001...threw out 42.9 percent of baserunners attempting to steal....Recommended/signed by Steve Nichols for the Tigers.
2009
Spent the entire 2009 season on the disabled list with Triple-A New Orleans in the Florida Marlins organization with a right shoulder strain...Assigned to the Gulf Coast League Marlins as part of an injury rehabilitation assignment August 21-31...Saw action in nine games with Licey in the Dominican Winter League following the season, batting .222 (6-for-27) with a double and four RBI.
2008
Limited to 34 games in 2008 in his first season with the Marlins due to two separate stints on the disabled list...Sidelined March 21-April 11 with a left knee sprain -- saw action in eight games with Single-A Jupiter during an injury rehabilitation assignment April 3-11...Equaled a career high with three hits on April 25 at Milwaukee...Optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque by the Marlins on June 23 -- saw action in nine games with Albuquerque before his option was voided on July 7 and he was placed on Florida's disabled list for the remainder of the season with a right wrist fracture.

Spent his first full season at the major league level as Detroit's back-up catcher...Recalled by the Tigers from Triple A Toledo on March 30 and he appeared on an Opening Day roster at the major league level for the first time in his career...Made his first start of his career behind the plate on April 12 at Toronto...Collected his first major league hit on April 28 versus Minnesota, a single in the sixth inning off of Carlos Silva...Established a career high with three hits on May 10 versus Seattle -- added his first major league triple and RBI during the game...equaled the high with three hits on July 24 and 25 at U.S. Cellular Field against the White Sox and August 19 at Yankee Stadium against New York...Hit .367 (11x30) with two doubles, a triple and four RBI in 10 games during May...Drove in two runs on June 1 at Cleveland to establish a career high -- matched the high with two RBI on September 26 versus Minnesota and September 30 at U.S. Cellular Field against the White Sox...Batted .344 (11x32) in 10 games during July, collecting four doubles, a triple and an RBI...Connected for his first career home run on September 30 at U.S. Cellular Field versus the White Sox, a two-run shot against Mike MacDougal...Batted .321 (27x84) in 24 games on the road...hit .190 (16x84) in 27 games at Comerica Park.
