Began his professional career in the Houston Astros organization after being selected in the fifth round of the 1995 June draft out of Jesuit High School in Sacramento, CA...named to the NYPL Post-Season All-Star team in 1996...signed by Astros scout Gene Wellman.
2007
Played the entire season at Triple-A Buffalo in the Cleveland Indians' organization...batted .262 (76-for-290) with seven home runs and 36 RBI in 88 games for the Bisons...led all International catchers with a .993 fielding percentage, committing just four errors in 609 total chances...marked his highest fielding percentage of his career (min. 500 tc)...hit .329 (28-for-85) when ahead in the count...batted just .220 (11-for- 5) over the seasons first month, but hit .324 (12-for-37) in the month of May to rise average 44 points to .264...was on the disabled list for nearly a month from May 19-June 10 with a right hamstring strain...drove in season-high five RBI while collecting a career-best three doubles on April 23 vs. Pawtucket...reached base all five times during that game, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two walks...batted .338 (23-for-68) over his final 20 games to rise from .239 to .262...four of his seven home runs hit in 2007 came in his final nine games.
2006
Began the year at AAA Durham in the TB organization and after going 7 for 67 (.104) was released on May 24 and signed by St. Louis and assigned to AAA Memphis the following day...Was with Memphis from May 26 thru August 30 before spending the final month of the season with the World Champion Cardinals...Appeared in 4 games (0GS) at catcher for the Cards and was 1 for 6 as a PH.
2005
Came to Spring Training as a non-roster invitee and began the season in Triple-A Las Vegas...had his contract purchased on May 31 and was optioned back to Las Vegas on July 29...was recalled again on Sept. 2 and spent the remainder of the season in the big leagues...in his second stint in the Major Leagues, saw action in 15 games, batting .209 with one homer and one RBI...in his final game of the year, the season finale on Oct. 2 at San Diego, threw out a runner trying to steal, blocked home plate on an outfield assist by Jason Repko and slugged his first Major League home run in his final at-bat of the game, a solo shot off Scott Cassidy...the homer marked his first big league RBI.
2004
Spent the entire regular season at Triple-A Sacramento before being called up to Oakland on Sept. 13...appeared in two games with the A's and was 0 for 2 with two strikeouts and a run scored...made his Major League debut on Oct. 1 vs. Anaheim after 10 years and 854 games in the minors...struck out as a pinchhitter in the bottom of the eighth inning off Brendan Donnelly and then caught the ninth inning...pinch-ran for Jermaine Dye on Oct. 3 vs. Anaheim and scored the tying run in Oakland's 3-2 win...remained in the game to catch and later struck out...hit .281 with six home runs and 49 RBI in 107 games with the River Cats...added a career-high 76 walks for a team leading .407 on-base percentage...the walks and on-base percentage were both career highs...his average improved to .320 (31-for-97) with runners in scoring position... hit .250 (25-for-100) against left-handed pitchers and .293 (73-for-249) against right-handers...appeared in 86 games at catcher...hit in every spot in the batting order...reached base safely via hit or walk in each of the first 31 games in which he batted through May 14 (35-for-103, .340, 26 walks)...had a season-high four hits and four RBI on July 2 against Tucson...went 3-for-9 (.333) with three walks in three playoff games with Sacramento and was brought up to Oakland prior to the Pacific Coast League Championship series.
