**COACHING CAREER** Randy St. Claire is in his third year as the pitching coach for the Marlins after being named to the position on November 6, 2009, marking his second Major League pitching coach assignment ... In 2011, his staff tossed the most innings in Franchise history (1459.2), tallied the second-lowest ERA (3.95), struck out the second-most batters (1218) and issued the second-fewest walks (500) ... The Marlins bullpen last season was one win shy of a Club record (31), previously done in 2009, '08 and '00. The pen established Club-bests in ERA (3.42) and opponents average (.232) ... He joined the Marlins after six-plus seasons as the Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals pitching coach. Throughout his tenure with the organization, he averaged 25 pitchers, including eight rookies on staff, per season. Despite the turnover, the Expos/Nationals had the sixth-most complete games in the National League in that time (34) ... St. Claire began coaching in 1996 with Milwaukee's single-A Stockton. From there, he signed on as the pitching coach for Montreal's single-A Cape Fear in 1998. Spent five years in the Expos organization before agreeing to be Toronto's triple-A pitching coach in 2003, which was cut short after getting a call from Montreal to join its big league staff. **PLAYING CAREER** Spent parts of nine seasons in the Major Leagues, posting a career mark of 12-6 with a 4.14 ERA in 162 relief outings. Compiled a 70-84 record and 3.66 ERA in 623 career minor league games, including 40 starts, eight complete games, two shutouts and 142 saves ... Signed with Montreal as a free agent on September 9, 1978 and made his professional debut with rookie-level Calgary in 1979. Went 33-46 with a 3.92 ERA (535.1 IP/233 ER) with 36 saves and eight complete games in 188 appearances prior to reporting to Montreal in September, 1994 ... Made his Major League debut on September 11, 1984 at Pittsburgh, tossing 3.0 innings and allowing one run on five hits. Earned his first big league win on June 3, 1986 at San Francisco ... Notched the first of his seven career saves on October 3, 1986 at Philadelphia, striking out two in 1.0 perfect inning ... Was traded to Cincinnati with C Jeff Reed and OF Herm Winningham in exchange for OF Tracy Jones and RHP Pat Pacillo on July 13, 1998 ... With Atlanta in 1991, took Armando Reynoso's place on the postseason roster the day beofre the National League Championship Series. Tossed 1.0 inning in Game 5 of the World Series against Minnesota. **PERSONAL/MISCELLANEOUS** Randy and wife Liz have two daughters: Monique and Chanta...selected into the Syracuse Chiefs' Wall of Fame in January of 2009...son of late big league catcher Ebba St. Claire (.249, 7 HR, 40 RBI 164 games with MIL and NYG from 1951-1954)...brother, Steve, was a minor league OF in the Montreal organization.
