Ruddy is the younger brother of former Ray and current Red Sox shortstop Julio Lugo...May 7 of last season at Oakland was a special moment for the brothers - the first time they appeared on the field together and the first time they ever played competitively together...they are the only set of brothers to play together in Tampa Bay's brief history.
2007
Was claimed on waivers by the A's from Tampa Bay on June 14 and was 4- 0 with a 4.30 ERA in 27 games over three stints with the A's...posted a 21.00 ERA in three appearances over his first two stints but then went 4-0 with a 2.86 ERA and .210 opponents batting average in 24 games over his final stint, which began on August 4...had two wins and a 9.28 ERA in 11 games with the Devil Rays and was 6-0 with a 5.40 ERA in 38 relief appearances overall...his ERA was second highest in Major League history among undefeated pitchers with six or more wins...Bob Veale went 6-0 with a 6.99 ERA in 37 games for Pittsburgh in 1971...was tied for sixth among American League relievers in wins...also ranked tied for fourth with 37 walks and struck out just 34...now has 74 walks and 82 strikeouts in 133.1 career innings...allowed 19 of 38 (50.0%) inherited runners to score, which was the highest mark in the AL and second highest in the Majors (Flores, STL 55.9%)...has allowed 34 of 68 (50.0%) inherited runners to score in his career...first batters faced were 8 for 34 (.235) with three walks and he was charged with two blown saves, both with the Devil Rays...opponents hit .261, which included a .244 (19 for 78) mark by lefthanded hitters and .274 (29 for 206) by right-handers...allowed all three of his home runs against lefties...allowed a .307 average with runners in scoring position and opponents were 3 for 9 with the bases loaded...has allowed a .462 (6 for 13, 16 RBI) average with the bases loaded in his career...had a 2.84 ERA in 10 outings on one day rest and a 6.31 ERA in his other 28 outings...now has a 3.21 ERA (19 er in 53.1 ip) in 40 career outings on one day rest and a 5.18 ERA (46 er in 80.0 ip) in his other 62 appearances...compiled a 4.08 ERA and .194 opponents batting average in 13 outings during the day and a 6.16 ERA and .295 opponents batting average in 25 appearances at night...did not commit an error in 38 games and has not made an error in 102 career appearances...tossed at least one inning in 30 of his 38 outings, including two or more nine times...was on Tampa Bay's Opening Day roster and allowed at least one run in six of his first seven appearances for a 14.85 ERA...did not allow a run in his next four outings (4.0 ip), including three against Oakland, but was optioned to Triple-A Durham on May 6...went 2-1 with a 1.84 ERA in 11 appearances for the Bulls but was designated for assignment on June 12...was claimed on waivers by the A's on June 14 and tossed a scoreless inning on June 15 against St. Louis...then allowed a career high seven runs on a career high five hits in just 0.2 innings the next day against the Cardinals and was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on June 18...did not allow a base runner and posted two saves in three outings with the River Cats (3.0 ip) before he was brought back to Oakland on June 25...tossed 1.1 scoreless innings on June 28 at Cleveland and was optioned back to Sacramento on June 29...had seven saves and a 0.53 ERA in 14 outings during his second stint with the River Cats and was brought back to Oakland for the final time on August 4...compiled a 2.50 ERA in 10 outings in August and a 3.24 ERA in 14 appearances in September...tossed a season high 3.0 innings on August 24 at Tampa Bay...recorded his sixth and final win by tossing 1.1 scoreless innings in the A's 7-4 win at Seattle on September 11...his six-game winning streak was the longest active streak in the AL at the end of the season...made his 100th career appearance on September 25 at Boston...was 3-0 with 10 saves and a 0.45 ERA in 17 appearances with Sacramento...ranked fifth in the A's farm system in saves...did not allow a run in 16 of his 17 outings and held the opposition to a .081 batting average...combined for a 5-1 record and a 1.04 ERA in 28 Triple-A appearances overall...converted 10 of 11 (90.9%) save opportunities and allowed just 1 of 10 (10.0%) inherited runners to score...allowed a .149 opponents batting average, which included a .115 (7 for 61) mark against right-handers and .189 (10 for 53) against left-handers...did not allow a home run in 34.2 innings and did not allow a run in 23 of his 28 games.

First season above Double-A the 26-year-old led all AL rookies with 64 appearances, tying Esteban Yan's club rookie record (1998), and led all major league rookies with 85.0 relief innings, just shy of Yan's 88.2...in fact, is the 4th-highest relief total in club history behind Rick White (105.2 in 1999), Travis Harper (93.0 in 2003) and Yan...Pitched to a 3.81 ERA, tops among TB relief pitchers...only DET Joel Zumaya (1.94) was better among AL rookie relievers...his .240 opponents batting average was also best among Rays relievers (actually tied with Scott Kazmir for lowest on the staff), bettered by only Zumaya (.187) among AL rookie relievers...His ERA stood at a season-high 6.08 on May 17 thru his first 18 big league outings following a loss to the White Sox at home (23.2-IP, 24-H, 16-ER)...allowed just 2 ER over his next 16 apps through June 20 (18.2-IP), a 0.96 ERA and pitched to a 2.93 ERA the rest of the way (61.1-IP, 51-H, 20-ER)...finished the season strong, pitching to a 2.35 ERA over his final 13 apps from Aug. 31 (15.1-IP, 4-ER)...Worked 2.0 or more innings 18 times including a season-most 3.1 on two occasions: June 1 at Baltimore and Aug. 12 at Oakland - tied with Brian Meadows for the longest outing by a Rays reliever on the season...Left June 20 game vs. ARI with a mid-back strain...a 3-week DL stint followed (June 21-July 13)...Compiled a 13.2 inning scoreless streak over an 8-game stretch, Aug 4-23, 3rd longest on the club this season (Kazmir-18.0, Shields 16.0)...Made his ML debut Opening Day, April 3 at Baltimore, pitching 1.1...allowed a pair of runs on 3 hits, including a Jeff Conine solo HR. » Suffered the 7-4 loss April 18 at Boston, his first big league decision...both his batters faced reached and scored...Earned his first major league win May 20 vs. FLA with a scoreless 9th (1-K)...TB won in the bottom of the frame on Branyan's walk-off HR....42 of his 64 outings were scoreless...Had much more success away from Tropicana Field (2.89) than at home (4.93)...also pitched to a 1.90 ERA during the day and 4.55 at night...Pitched better against left-handed hitters, yielding just a .213 avg.
