Graduated from Pinson Valley High School, lettering in baseball and basketball...attended Wallace State Junior College and the University of North Alabama, where he was part of the conference championship club, earning the tournament MVP honors during his senior season.

Spent the majority of the season with Triple-A Ottawa, batting .262 (87-for-332) with 17 doubles, 23 RBI and 30 SB in 88 games...ranked sixth in the International League with his 30 stolen bases...was recalled by Montreal on 7/3 and batted .270 (17-for-63) with 3 RBI in 17 games.
1998
Was recalled from Triple-A Ottawa on 7/21 following Rondell White's season-ending right finger fracture...batted .217 with 1 HR and 15 RBI in 60 games for Montreal...started 57 of 60 games...committed only two errors in 161 opportunities...stole 16 bases in 20 attempts, tying him with White for the team lead...was 2-for-4 with one double, a career-high 4 RBI and his first career home run (off Carlos Perez) on 8/6 vs. Los Angeles...collected a career-high three hits on 8/11 at Colorado...batted .237 with 21 RBI and 35 SB in 81 games with Ottawa before being recalled.

Batted .270 with 1 HR, 15 RBI and 36 SB in 92 games with Triple-A Colorado Springs...captured his second stolen base title in the last three seasons...posted a .993 fielding percentage in 87 games...committed only one error in 151 total chances...was placed on the disabled list from 5/24-6/15 with a strained right hamstring.

Played in 12 games for the Rockies, going 3-for-10 with 1 RBI...made his Major-League debut as a pinch-runner on 9/8 at Houston...his first five appearances with Colorado were as a pinch-runner...collected his first Major-League hit on 9/19 at San Francisco, a single off Rick DeLucia...batted .288 with 33 RBI and 26 SB (14 CS) in 128 games at Triple-A Colorado Springs...was 5-for-5 with two doubles and 3 R on 8/27...played in the Arizona Fall League following the season and was batting .204 through 30 games before sustaining a right shoulder injury that ended his season.

Batted .269 with an Eastern-League leading 51 stolen bases in 124 games for Double-A New Haven...his 51 stolen bases again lead the Rockie organization...stole 13 straight bases before being caught on 6/17...batted .364 (32-for-88) in 23 games from 7/22-8/15.

Spent the entire season at Single-A Central Valley, batting .293 with 2 HR, 44 RBI and 44 SB in 129 games...was named to the California League post-season All-Star team...finished the season among the league leaders in stolen bases (2nd), hits (3rd-157) and runs (5th-94)...also led the Rockie organization with his 44 stolen bases.
