Drew on May 1...did not allow a hit or run in his first 11.0 innings (36 batters faced) until Pittsburgh's Craig Wilson hit a solo home run on May 11...picked up the win on May 16 vs. Philadelphia, his first Major League victory since April 24, 1999...settled into role of set-up man in June, notching relief holds in four consecutive appearances from June 15-23...continued to work in the setup role off-and-on all year, also serving as a middle and long-relief man...worked 2.0 or more innings 14 times and did not allow a run in any of those outings...began to fade as the season came to a close, as he allowed 17 earned runs in his final 12 outings (10.1 innings, 14.81 ERA), a stretch that included four losses and five blown saves...failed to retire a batter in three of his final six appearances.
