Spent a majority of the season with the Cubs, producing a 4.95 ERA (20 ER/36.1 IP) in 56 relief outings. Was optioned to Iowa (AAA) from 8/7-9/1. Posted a 2.70 ERA (2 ER/6.2 IP) in nine relief outings. Was 1-1 with a 1.45 ERA (3 ER/18.2 IP) in 29 road games compared to a 1-3 mark with an 8.66 ERA (17 ER/17.2 IP) in 27 home contests. Stranded 35-of-46 inherited runners on the season. Made his first appearance 4/2 and tossed a perfect eighth inning with a pair of strikeouts. Walked in two runs 4/13 vs. CIN as he entered with the bases loaded and none out in the fifth. Prior to the game, had allowed just one baserunner over his first three appearances. Produced nine-straight scoreless outings, 4/21-5/8 (5.1 IP). Struck out four batters for just the fourth time in his career 5/17 at NYM. Was awarded the first save of his big league career 6/26 vs. COL, pitching 0.1 perfect innings of relief, stranding two inherited runners to close out the game.

Ohman appeared in a career-high 78 games. He held opponents scoreless in 63 of those games. He matched his career high with four strikeouts on Aug. 28, while tying his season high of two scoreless innings of relief. From June 16-July 30, he had a 1.72 ERA in 18 appearances, and struck out 18 in that stretch.

Will made his first big league appearance since August 19, 2001, on April 26 against Cincinnati -- pitched 0.2 innings of scoreless relief at Wrigley Field ... picked up his first victory of the season - and his first since September 22, 2000 -- on May 13 at Washington ... worked a scoreless seventh inning before the Cub offense plated 4 runs in the eighth in the 6-3 win ... allowed just 5 runs over his final 14.2 innings of the season (spanning 23 games) ... stranded 35 of his 47 inherited runners ... was unscored upon in 46 of his last 55 outings (spanning 35.0 innings) and posted a 2.83 ERA over the stretch ... was unscored upon in 58 of 69 total appearances (spanning 37.1 innings) ... started the season at Iowa (AAA), where he was 1-0 with 1 save and a 4.15 ERA in 8 games ... held opposing batters to a .138 average, striking out 12 batters in 8.2 innings of work ... worked a season-high 2.0 innings April 16 at Albuquerque, retiring all 6 batters he faced -- including 4 via the strikeout.

Will spent the season at Iowa (AAA), going 3-3 with a 4.30 ERA in 45 games (1 start)...struck out 75 batters in 52.1 innings on the mound...earned his first win since the 2001 season April 29 at Albuquerque - striking out the only two batters he faced...worked a season-high 3.0 innings April 22 at Oklahoma - allowing 4 hits and a run while striking out 3 batters...struck out four of the five batters he faced July 27 vs. Tucson...was on the disabled list June 10-July 2 with inflammation in his left elbow.

Will tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow while pitching in winter ball (Los Mochis of the Mexican Pacific League) and missed the entire campaign ... underwent the "Tommy John" procedure January 16 ... the surgery was performed by Dr. Lewis Yocum.
2001
Had a pair of stints on the Cubs' roster (June 18-July 14 and August 10-August 20), pitching in 11 games ... spent the rest of the season at Iowa (AAA) ... with the Cubs, he went 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA in 11.2 innings of work ... worked a big league-high 3.1 innings August 11 vs. San Francisco ... in 40 games for Iowa (1 start), he went 5-2 with 4 saves and a 4.06 ERA ... struck out 66 batters in 51.0 innings while walking 18 ... struggled early in the season ... his Triple-A ERA stood at 6.54 when he joined the Cubs in June ... from the time he rejoined the Iowa club through the end of the minor league campaign, he allowed just 1 unearned run and 11 hits in 19.1 innings (12 games) ... made his only start of the campaign August 6 vs. Tacoma, allowing 1 hit over 4.0 scoreless innings.
