Koby Perez

The Cleveland Indians today named Koby Perez Director of Latin American Scouting. He will now oversee and guide all amateur scouting efforts in Latin American countries, including the Dominican Republic and Venezuela, after serving as the club's International Crosschecker since November of 2013.

The Cleveland Indians today named Koby Perez Director of Latin American Scouting. He will now oversee and guide all amateur scouting efforts in Latin American countries, including the Dominican Republic and Venezuela, after serving as the club's International Crosschecker since November of 2013. 
 
Perez, 37, enjoyed a five-year Minor League catching career from 2001-05 in the Detroit and Boston organizations before joining the Red Sox staff as a part-time scout at the conclusion of his playing career. After attending the Major League Scouting Bureau's Scout School, he was hired by the St. Louis Cardinals as a Northeast Area Scout along the New England seaboard, a position he held for three seasons from 2006-08. He later spent five seasons, 2009-13, on Philadelphia' Latin American scouting staff, focusing mainly on the Dominican Republic and was instrumental in the club's signing of Maikel Franco. Perez was born in Tamayo, DR and has been a resident of North Bergen, New Jersey since childhood.
