The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has signed free agent right-handed pitcher Jeremy Guthrie to a minor league contract. The veteran joined Rangers major league spring training camp in Surprise this morning and completed a physical.

Guthrie, who turns 37 on April 8, has spent the last three-plus seasons with the Kansas City Royals, averaging 12 wins and 188 innings from 2013-15. He spent the bulk of the 2015 season in the rotation for the World Series champion Royals, posting an 8-8 record with a 5.95 ERA (98 ER/148.1 IP) over 30 games/24 starts. He was not on the club's postseason roster last year, but made a pair of World Series starts in 2014, including a Game 3 win in San Francisco. A mutual option for 2016 was declined by the Royals on November 4, making him a free agent.

Guthrie has a career 91-108 record with a 4.37 ERA over 305 games/272 starts with Cleveland (2004-06), Baltimore (2007-11), Colorado (2012), and Kansas City (2012-13). Over the last nine seasons from 2007-15, he ranks 9th in the majors with 271 starts and 10th with 1727.2 innings.

With the addition of Guthrie, the Rangers are now scheduled to have 58 players in major league spring training camp: a full 40-man roster plus 18 non-roster invitees.

RANGERS SIGN LHP MICHAEL ROTH: The Rangers have also signed left-handed pitcher Michael Roth to a minor league contract, and he will be in minor league camp this spring. Roth saw major league action with the Los Angeles Angels in 2013-14, posting a combined 2-1 record with a 7.79 ERA over 22 games/one start. The University of South Carolina product spent the 2015 season with Cleveland's Triple-A Columbus affiliate, going 9-9 with a 4.85 ERA (67 ER/124.1 IP) over 31 games/19 starts. He also made 7 starts for the Aguilas in the Dominican Winter League, finishing 1-2 with a 3.38 ERA (12 ER/32.0 IP).
