Rockies Announce Roster Moves

The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have reinstated right-handed pitcher Jon Gray from the 15-day disabled list (abdominal strain), have recalled right-hander Carlos Estevez and selected the contract of right-hander Gonzalez Germen from Triple-A Albuquerque.

The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have reinstated right-handed pitcher Jon Gray from the 15-day disabled list (abdominal strain), have recalled right-hander Carlos Estevez and selected the contract of right-hander Gonzalez Germen from Triple-A Albuquerque … additionally, right-handed pitcher Miguel Castro has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation retroactive to April 18, left-hander Jason Gurka has been optioned to Albuquerque and right-hander David Hale has been designated for assignment.
Jon Gray, 24, was placed on the 15-day disabled list April 3 (retroactive to March 15) with an abdominal strain … made two rehab starts with High-A Modesto, and went 0-1 with a 2.08 ERA (8.2 IP, 2 ER), three walks and 11 strikeouts … made five appearances in Spring Training and went 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA (11.2 IP, 5 ER), eight walks and six strikeouts … was selected by the Rockies in the first round (third overall) of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Oklahoma … made his Major League debut for the Rockies Aug. 4, 2015, and made nine starts for Colorado last season … went 0-2 with a 5.53 ERA (40.2 IP, 25 ER), 14 walks and 40 strikeouts.
Carlos Estevez, 22, originally signed with the Rockies as a non-drafted international free agent May 31, 2011 out of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic …will be on the Major League active roster for the first time in his career … was selected to the Rockies' 40-man roster Nov. 11 and attended his first Major League Spring Training this season, going 1-1 with a 12.46 ERA (4.1 IP, 6 ER), one walk and seven strikeouts in five relief appearances … is 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA (5.2 IP, 2 ER), three walks and four strikeouts in five appearances for Albuquerque … in 48 relief appearances between High-A Modesto and Double-A New Britain in 2015, Estevez went 5-3 with 18 saves in 23 opportunities and a 3.40 ERA (55.2 IP, 21 ER) with 14 walks and 68 strikeouts … he will wear number 54.
Gonzalez Germen, 28, was acquired off waivers from the Chicago Cubs July 7, 2015, and went 0-0 with one save and a 3.86 ERA (32.2 IP, 14 ER), 21 walks and 25 strikeouts in 29 appearances (one start) for the Rockies in 2015 … has made five appearances with Albuquerque, and has recorded three saves and has not allowed a run across six innings pitched with one walk and seven strikeouts … made 11 appearances in Spring Training, and went 0-0 with a 1.74 ERA (10.1 IP, 2 ER) with four walks and nine strikeouts … in his career, is 1-2 with a 4.35 ERA (103.1 IP, 50 ER) with 56 walks and 97 strikeouts across parts of three seasons with New York-NL, Chicago-NL and Colorado.
Miguel Castro, 21, is 0-0 with a 1.50 ERA (6.0 IP, 1 ER), two walks and eight strikeouts across his six appearances this season … was acquired by the Rockies via trade from Toronto, July 28, 2015 … made his Major League debut for the Blue Jays April 6, 2015, and is now 0-3 with a 4.94 ERA (23.2 IP, 13 ER), 12 walks and 26 strikeouts in 24 Major League appearances between Toronto and Colorado.
Jason Gurka, 28, was a non-roster invitee to Spring Training and made his first Opening Day roster … is 0-0 with a 9.31 ERA (9.2 IP, 10 ER), two walks and seven strikeouts in six appearances with the Rockies … is now 0-0 with a 9.35 ERA (17.1 IP, 18 ER), four walks and 14 strikeouts in 15 games across parts of two seasons with the Rockies … in Spring Training, went 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA (10.2 IP, 2 ER), one walk and 20 strikeouts.
David Hale, 28, was recalled last Saturday, April 16, and made two appearances from the bullpen while allowing three runs in two innings pitched (13.50 ERA) with two walks and one strikeout … in parts of two seasons with Colorado, is 5-5 with a 6.27 ERA (80.1 IP, 56 ER) with 22 walks and 62 strikeouts in 19 appearances (12 starts) … is 10-10 with a 4.48 ERA (178.2 IP, 89 ER), 62 walks and 120 strikeouts in his Major League career with Atlanta and Colorado … in two starts with Albuquerque this season, is 0-1 with a 1.50 ERA (6.0 IP, 1 ER), two walks and seven strikeouts.
The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
