The Red Sox will celebrate kids during the upcoming homestand against the Oakland Athletics and the Houston Astros at Fenway Park as part of Major League Baseball's "Play Ball!" initiative created to encourage widespread participation in both formal and casual baseball and softball activities.
Starting today, Monday, May 9, through Sunday, May 15, kids will take the field with players before each game and will be given the opportunity to deliver the lineup card, be a bat kid, guest DJ, grounds crew helper, and assist Wally the Green Monster with his mascot duties.
During the game, a lucky child will be chosen to watch an inning inside the Green Monster scoreboard and to be a guest PA announcer.
Play Ball! is supported by Scotts, a proud partner of both the Red Sox and Major League Baseball.
"Play Ball!" week at Fenway Park is part of a broader effort by the Red Sox designed to bring children and young adults closer to the game. The club's "Calling All Kids" movement, presented by Hood, includes new virtual reality stations at Fenway Park, a mobile truck experience that will bring elements of the ballpark out to the community later this season, free tickets to games for fans 14 and under, and $9 tickets for high school and college students.
