PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) selected 8 additional players in Rounds 3-10 of Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft, as announced by D-backs Director, Scouting Deric Ladnier.
 
Overall, the D-backs have made 8 selections from the college ranks, and 2 from high school, including 2 catchers, 1 infielder, 2 outfielders, 3 right-handed pitchers and 2 left-handed pitchers.
 
Yesterday, the D-backs selected Auburn University outfielder Anfernee Grier with the 39th-overall pick in the draft, along with York Mills Collegiate Institute (Toronto, Ontario) catcher Andrew Yerzy in the second round (52nd overall).
 
Today's selections include:
RHP Jon Duplantier (Third Round, 89th overall) was named Conference USA Pitcher of the Year, First-Team All-Conference USA and a Third-Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball after going 7-7 with a 3.24 ERA (40 ER in 111.0 IP) and 47 walks against 148 strikeouts in 17 games (16 starts) for Rice University. The 6-4, 225-pound native of Katy, Texas, ranked among all NCAA Division-I pitchers in strikeouts (2nd), strikeouts-per-9.0 innings (8th, 12.0) and starts (10th).  
RHP Curtis Taylor (Fourth Round, 119th overall) went 9-4 with a 1.96 ERA (20 ER in 91.2 IP) and 113 strikeouts in 15 starts during his junior season for the University of British Columbia. He is the ninth player in club history selected out of Canada, and the second this season, joining second-round selection Andrew Yerzy.
INF Joey Rose (Fifth Round, 149th overall) hit .437 with a school-record 11 home runs and 38 RBI as a senior at Toms River High School North. The Oklahoma State University commit was named a 2016 Rawlings-Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American. 
LHP Mack Lemieux (Sixth Round, 179th overall) went 3-3 with 1 save, a 2.79 ERA (21 ER in 67.2 IP) and 63 strikeouts in 12 appearances for Palm Beach State College last season. He was selected in the 14th-round of the 2015 Draft by the Washington Nationals after going 7-2 with a 1.90 ERA during his senior season at Jupiter Community High School. Lemieux is a distant cousin of hockey great, Mario Lemieux.
LHP Jordan Watson (Seventh Round, 209th overall) led the NAIA in strikeouts (176) and opponent average (.148) and was second in ERA (1.38) with the University of Science & Arts (Okla.) as a junior. He went 10-2 with 4 complete games in 16 starts, and was named a NAIA First-Team All-American.
C Ryan January (Eighth Round, 239th overall) hit .339 (60-for-177) with 24 doubles, 10 home runs and 46 RBI in his freshman season at San Jacinto College-North. He was originally committed to play baseball at LSU prior to enrolling at San Jacinto, which produced former All-Star pitchers Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte.
RHP Tommy Eveld (Ninth Round, 269th overall) posted a 2.21 ERA (13 ER in 53.0 IP) with 9 saves, 67 strikeouts and a .189 opponent average as a junior at the University of South Florida. He did not play baseball in high school, and was originally recruited to play quarterback/wide receiver for the Bulls before a knee injury ended his career on the gridiron in 2014. Eveld then appeared in 13 games (2 starts) with the South Florida baseball team in 2015.
OF Stephen Smith (10th Round, 299th overall) batted .325 with 18 doubles, 10 home runs and 39 RBI in 61 games for Texas Tech University as a junior in 2016. He was the starting pitcher for Lubbock Western in the U.S. championship game of the 2007 Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.
