The Cleveland Indians today announced the following roster moves relative to the 2016 Major League roster:
Recalled RHP MIKE CLEVINGER (#52) and LHP RYAN MERRITT (#54) from AAA Columbus.
Optioned RHP SHAWN ARMSTRONG and RHP CODY ANDERSON to AAA Columbus.
Clevinger, 25, has spent most of the season in Columbus, going 11-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 17 starts (93.0IP, 78H, 31ER, 35BB, 97SO, .229 avg). He is currently tied for first among International League pitchers in wins (11), 7th in ERA (3.00) and 8th in strikeouts (97). He has limited Triple-A left-handed batters to a .201 (36-179) average against and has yielded a mark of .187 (26-139) with runners on base. Around his time in Columbus he has spent two stints with Cleveland (5/18-6/1; 7/4-6), going 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA in 4 games/3 starts (16.1IP, 17H, 14R/ER, 9BB, 14SO). He is making his fourth Major League start today vs. the Minnesota Twins.
Merritt, 24, has spent most of the 2016 season in Columbus, going 7-7 with a 4.06 ERA in 18 starts (2CG, 1SHO, 106.1IP, 118H, 48ER, 17BB, 66SO). He has allowed just 1 earned run over his last 2 starts dating back to July 24 (11.IP, 11H, 2R, 0BB, 6SO). He was previously with Cleveland, May 23-30, making his Major League debut on May 30 in relief vs. the Texas Rangers (4.1IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 2SO).
