Mariners acquire RHP Arquimedes Caminero from Pittsburgh

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto today announced that the Mariners have acquired right-handed pitcher Arquimedes Caminero from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for a Player to Be Named Later and a conditional Player to Be Named Later.

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto today announced that the Mariners have acquired right-handed pitcher Arquimedes Caminero from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for a Player to Be Named Later and a conditional Player to Be Named Later. To make room on the Mariners Major League 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Blake Parker has been designated for assignment.
The Mariners now have 10 days to trade, release or outright the contract of Parker to the minors.
The Mariners 40-man roster remains full.
Caminero, 29, was 1-2 with 1 save and a 3.51 ERA (16 ER, 41.0 IP with 32 strikeouts in 39 relief appearances with Pittsburgh. In his last 21 appearances, he has a 2.13 ERA (6 ER, 25.1 IP) with 19 strikeouts since May 24. He made three rehab appearances with Indianapolis after being placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left quad (May 25-June 11).
In parts of four Major League seasons, he is 6-4 with 1 save and a 3.86 ERA (58 ER, 135.1 IP) with 125 strikeouts in 131 games, all relief appearances, with Miami (2013-14) and Pittsburgh (2015-16). He was signed by the Florida Marlins as a non-drafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2005.
Parker, 31, appeared in 1 game with Seattle this season, tossing 1.0 scoreless inning in relief vs. Boston on Thursday (Aug. 4). In 38 appearances with AAA Tacoma this season, Parker was 1-2 with 19 saves with a 2.72 ERA (12 ER, 39.2 IP) with 56 strikeouts and 11 walks. In parts of 3 Major League seasons, he compiled a record of 2-3 with a 3.63 ERA (30 ER, 74.1 IP) with 85 strikeouts and 25 walks in 75 career appearances. Over 10 minor league seasons, Parker is 15-20 with a 2.85 ERA (134 ER, 423.0 IP) with 480 strikeouts and 192 walks in 333 career games with the Cubs and Mariners organizations. He was signed by Seattle as a minor league free agent on Dec. 18, 2015.
