Mariners trade RHP Joe Wieland to Atlanta

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that the club has traded right-handed pitcher Joe Wieland to Atlanta in exchange for a Player to be Named Later (PTBNL) or cash considerations.

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that the club has traded right-handed pitcher Joe Wieland to Atlanta in exchange for a Player to be Named Later (PTBNL) or cash considerations.
Wieland, 26, was 0-1 with a 10.80 ERA (6 ER, 5.0 IP) with 3 strikeouts in 1 start with Seattle this season. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound right-hander made his Mariners debut in a start on Aug. 12 at Oakland and took the loss after allowing 6 runs on 9 hits (1 home run) while striking out 3 over 5.0 innings pitched. In 26 games, including 24 starts, with AAA Tacoma this season, he was 14-6 with a 5.43 ERA (75 ER, 124.1 IP) with 118 strikeouts and 39 walks. Among Pacific Coast League leaders this season, Wieland ranks T1st in wins (14) and 9th in strikeouts (118).
Wieland was acquired by Seattle from Los Angeles (NL) in exchange for INF Erick Mejia on Jan. 12. The right-hander was originally selected by Texas in the 4th round of the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Bishop Manogue High School (Reno, NV).
