ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves and Texas Rangers completed a three-player trade today, as the Braves acquired right-handed pitcher Luke Jackson in exchange for right-handed pitcher Tyrell Jenkins and left-handed pitcher Brady Feigl.
Jackson, 25, made 15 appearances for Texas over the past two seasons, combining to post an 8.50 ERA (17 ER/18.0 IP) with nine strikeouts. He played the majority of the 2016 season between Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock, going 1-1 with a 3.69 ERA in 36 appearances between the two clubs. In 16 outings at the Triple-A level, he went 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA and a pair of saves while allowing opponents to bat just .178 (13-for-73). He is ranked by MLB.com as the Rangers' No. 15 prospect.
A native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Jackson owns a 38-26 record and a 4.24 ERA over 171 career minor-league appearances, including 97 starts. He has fanned 622 batters over 568.2 innings, a rate of 9.8 strikeouts per 9.0 innings. Originally selected by the Rangers with the 45th overall pick in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, he was named by Texas as the 2013 Nolan Ryan Minor League Pitcher of the Year after going 11-4 with a 2.04 ERA over 25 games (23 starts) on the season.
Jenkins, 24, made his Major League debut with Atlanta last season and went 2-4 with a 5.88 ERA (34 ER/52.0 IP) in 14 games, eight starts. The 2016 campaign was his second as a member of the Braves organization after Atlanta acquired him in a trade with St. Louis in November 2014, and he owns a career minor-league record of 35-27 with a 3.64 ERA.
Feigl, 25, signed with the Braves as a non-drafted free agent in 2013 and has compiled a 5-5 record and a 2.74 ERA (22 ER/72.1 IP) in 45 career minor-league outings. He made just six appearances in the 2016 campaign after undergoing "Tommy John" surgery in April 2015.
