Prior to today's game at Kansas City, the Chicago White Sox placed right-handed pitcher Nate Jones on the 10-day disabled list (retroactive to May 1) with right elbow neuritis, purchased the contract of left-hander David Holmberg from Class AAA Charlotte and transferred left-hander Carlos Rodon to the 60-day disabled list.
 
Holmberg, 25, has gone 3-0 with a 1.76 ERA (3 ER/15.1 IP) and 13 strikeouts over six games (one start) with Charlotte this season. He was unscored upon in his five relief appearances, allowing just two hits with 10 strikeouts over 10.2 IP.
 
Holmberg, 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds, has pitched in 14 games (12 starts) over parts of three major-league seasons with Arizona (2013) and Cincinnati (2014-15), going 3-6 with a 6.24 ERA (43 ER/62.0 IP). He originally was selected by the White Sox in the second round of the 2009 First-Year Player draft before being traded to the Diamondbacks on July 30, 2010 with right-hander Daniel Hudson in exchange for right-hander Edwin Jackson.
 
Holmberg, who will wear uniform No. 64, rejoined the Sox organization on March 31, 2016 when he signed as a free agent.
 
Jones, 31, has gone 1-0 with a 2.31 ERA (3 ER/11.2 IP) and 15 strikeouts over 11 relief appearances this season. He leads the team with four holds.
 
Rodon, 24, has been on the disabled list since April 2 (retroactive to March 30) with left biceps bursitis.
 
The White Sox 40-man roster remains at 40.
