ATLANTA, Ga. - The Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins have completed a two-player trade this evening in which the Braves acquired infielder/outfielder Danny Santana in exchange for LHP Kevin Chapman and cash considerations. Santana will wear uniform No. 23 for the Braves. In order to make room on Atlanta's 25- and 40-man rosters, the club optioned OF Lane Adams to Triple-A Gwinnett and transferred INF Micah Johnson to the 60-day disabled list, respectively.
Santana, 26, owns a career .266 (246-for-924) batting average with 72 extra-base hits, 76 RBI and 41 stolen bases in 280 games spanning parts of four seasons at the Major League level. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound switch-hitter has posted a .966 career fielding percentage (27 errors in 783 total chances) while playing six different defensive positions, including 114 games in centerfield, 103 at shortstop, 25 in left field, 10 in right field, four at second base and two at third base.
Earlier this season, Santana made the Twin's Opening Day roster for the third consecutive year and appeared in 13 games with the club, batting .200 (5-for-25) with one home run and one RBI. In 2014, Santana's rookie season, he posted his best offensive numbers, batting .319 (129-for-405) with 27 doubles, seven home runs, 40 RBI and 20 stolen bases. From his debut in 2014 through the 2016 season, the switch-hitting utility player hit .268 (241-for-899) with 47 doubles, 14 triples, nine home runs 75 RBI and 129 runs over 267 games.
The Monte Plata, Dominican Republic native originally signed as a 17-year-old with Minnesota in December of 2007 and spent six seasons in their farm system before making his Major League debut on May 5, 2014. Overall, Santana has batted .276 in 589 games played with 178 extra-base hits and 248 RBI at the minor league level.
