Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN -- The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have claimed right-handed pitcher Chris Heston off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Heston will wear uniform number 50 and will be in uniform for tonight's game in Seattle.
Heston, 29, pitched for three different clubs this season, most recently with Triple-A Oklahoma, appearing in one game. He began the season in Seattle's organization where he made six starts for Triple-A Tacoma, going 2-1 with a 3.41 ERA (31.2 IP, 12 ER) and one complete game. Additionally, he made two appearances (1 start) for the Mariners this season.
The Florida native was drafted by San Francisco in the 12th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of East Carolina University. He has appeared in 40 major league games (33 starts), going 13-13 with a 4.57 ERA (193.0 IP, 98 ER), 78 walks and 151 strikeouts.
To make room for Heston on the 25-man roster, the Twins have placed left-handed pitcher Hector Santiago on the 10-day disabled list with a left-shoulder strain. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Twins have placed right-handed pitcher Nick Tepesch on release waivers.
