The Chicago White Sox have signed third baseman Jake Burger, their first-round pick (No. 11 overall) in the 2017 First-Year Player Draft, to a minor-league contract with a $3.7-million signing bonus.
 
Burger, 21, batted .328 (81-247) with 22 home runs, 65 RBI, 69 runs scored, 43 walks, a .443 on-base percentage and .648 slugging percentage in 63 games for Missouri State in 2017. He ranked among the Division I leaders in runs scored (T6th) and home runs (7th).
 
"We are pleased to add Jake's right-handed power bat to the organization," said Rick Hahn, White Sox senior vice president/general manager. "He has a great mix of power and discipline at the plate, and he is a high-character guy who will fit nicely into the organization going forward."

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Burger was named First Team All-America by Baseball America and the Joe Carter Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year. He was a semifinalist for the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award.

Burger, a Chesterfield, Mo. native, joins catcher Zack Collins (2016, 10th overall), right-handed pitchers Zack Burdi (2016, 26th) and Carson Fulmer (2015, eighth), left-hander Carlos Rodon (2014, third) and infielder Tim Anderson (2013, 17th) as the White Sox most recent first-round selections. He was recommended by Sox scout Clay Overcash.
