Fans should mark their calendars for the White Sox Throwback Game on Saturday, July 29 vs. Cleveland, marking the 100th anniversary of the club's 1917 World Series championship. The White Sox will wear the 1917 uniform, while Cleveland Indians will don a throwback from their early days.
The first 20,000 fans to enter the ballpark will receive a similar 1917 Commemorative Jersey, presented by XFINITY. The 1917 uniforms were worn throughout World War I. The logo is highlighted by small stars within the large "S" in Sox. Franchise greats to sport the jerseys in 1917 include Hall-of-Famers Eddie Collins, Ray Schalk and Red Faber. The uniform was then adjusted in 1919 to feature miniature stockings in the "S."
"We have always treasured the memorable moments in White Sox history, so we wanted to create an opportunity for our fans to celebrate the 100th anniversary of our 1917 World Series Championship with us," said Brooks Boyer, White Sox senior vice president of sales and marketing. "We are excited to transform the ballpark into a different era of White Sox baseball, from the uniforms on the field and in the stands to old-time music and entertainment. It will certainly be a fun day for all baseball fans to enjoy."
At the ballpark that day, fans will enjoy pastime prices on popcorn and White Sox programs, which will both be available for 25 cents while supplies last. Fans are encouraged to wear their best early 1900s outfits to join the spirit of the Throwback Game on July 29.
In addition, the game will be broadcast on CSN Chicago and will feature 1917-themed White Sox memories through vintage graphics, images, footage and stories from White Sox history in 1917.
To further celebrate the 100th anniversary of this iconic look, the first 20,000 fans will have the opportunity to take home a 1917 White Sox Cap, presented by The PrivateBank, on Saturday, July 15 vs. Seattle.
