The Seattle Mariners pay tribute to the contributions Latin Americans have made to the game of baseball on Saturday, September 9, when the Mariners take on the Los Angeles Angels. Game time is 6:10 pm.
The Mariners will wear jerseys with "Marineros" across the front. The letters are screen-printed with the names of the home countries of Mariners Latin American players.
Marineros jerseys from the game, some with player autographs, will be auctioned off to benefit Hurricane Irma relief efforts. Information about the auction will be released later.
During batting practice on Saturday, all Mariners players will wear special Hispanic Heritage Month T-shirts, part of Major League Baseball's "Ponle Acento" ("Put an Accent on It") campaign, launched in 2016 to highlight the distinctive mark that Hispanic and Latino players and fans leave on the game.
Saturday is also Robinson Canó Marineros Bobblehead Day, with the first 20,000 fans receiving a bobblehead courtesy of ROOT SPORTS.
The evening's festivities also include performances by the dance troupe Bailadores de Bronce and the singing of the National Anthem by Tess Altiveros, a talented soprano from Seattle who has performed extensively with Puget Sound opera companies and symphonies. The starting lineups and batters will be announced in both English and in Spanish.
