BOSTON - Prior to today's game at Boston, the Chicago White Sox returned left-handed pitcher Carlos Rodón from his injury rehab assignment at Class AAA Charlotte and reinstated him from the 60-day disabled list. The White Sox also designated right-handed pitcher Chris Beck for assignment.
Rodón, 25, will make his season debut today as Chicago's starting pitcher. He made four injury rehab starts between Charlotte and Class A Kannapolis. Rodón has been on the disabled list since March 28 (retroactive to March 26) to continue his rehabilitation from left should surgery on September 27, 2017.
Rodón went 2-4 with a 4.15 ERA (32 ER/69.1 IP) and 76 strikeouts over 12 starts last season. He owns a career 9.22 strikeout-per-9.0 IP mark (383 SO/373.2 IP), and is limiting left-handers to a .226 average (74-327) lifetime. Rodón originally was selected by the White Sox in the first round (third overall) of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft.
Beck, 27, is 0-0 with a 4.18 ERA (11 ER/23.2 IP) and 16 strikeouts over 14 relief appearances this season.
Following the moves, Chicago's 40-man roster remains at 40.
