The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired INF/OF Patrick Kivlehan (@PatrickKivlehan) from the New York Mets for cash considerations and selected his contract from Triple-A Reno. To make room on the 40-man roster, the D-backs transferred OF Jarrod Dyson to the 60-day disabled list (strained right groin). Arizona has 34 players on their active roster and the 40-man roster remains at 40. 
 
Kivlehan (pronounced: KIV-luh-han), 28, will wear No. 47. He split the 2018 season with Triple-A Louisville in the Cincinnati Reds' organization and Triple-A Las Vegas with the Mets, combining to hit .298 (118-for-396)/.359 OBP/.543 SLG with 29 doubles, 4 triples, 20 home runs, 71 RBI, 32 walks and 62 runs scored in 113 games. He ranked among the Pacific Coast League leaders in several offensive categories, including slugging pct. (3rd, .588), OPS (4th, .959), extra-base hits (T-8th, 53) and average (9th, .314). Over his final 38 games since July 20, Kivlehan batted .365 (50-for-137)/.432 OBP/.861 SLG with 15 doubles, 4 triples, 15 home runs, 38 RBI, 16 walks and 32 runs scored, leading all of Minor League Baseball in that time in extra-base hits (34), total bases (118), slugging pct. and OPS (1.294). 
 
Kivlehan has hit .206 (41-for-199)/.303 OBP/.392 SLG with 5 doubles, 1 triple, 10 home runs, 28 RBI, 24 walks and 28 runs in 123 career Major League games with the San Diego Padres (2016) and Reds ('16-17). He has made 35 appearances (20 starts) in right field, 12 appearances (7 starts) in left, 12 appearances (0 starts) at first base, 7 appearances (5 starts) at third and 4 appearances (2 starts) in center. 
 
A native of Nyack, N.Y., Kivlehan was selected in the fourth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Rutgers University. He played 4 seasons on the Scarlet Knights' football team as a defensive back and played just 1 season for the baseball team, winning Big East Conference Player of the Year after becoming the first player in league history to win the Triple Crown (.392 average, 14 home runs, 50 RBI) in 2012. 
 
Dyson, 34, has been on the disabled list since July 5. He batted .189 (39-for-206)/.282 OBP/.257 SLG with 4 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs and 12 RBI in 67 games for the D-backs in 2018.
