On Thursday, October 25, five fourth through seventh grade DISD teachers were the ones doing the learning in the Academy classrooms for the Science of Baseball Teacher Training Workshop.
Teachers from Uplift Heights, Lorenzo De Zavala Elementary School, Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School, and Dallas Environmental Science Academy were provided with a curriculum to teach Science of Baseball, presented by Capital One Bank at their schools.
The school year portion of the program follows a summer series that was hosted at the Academy. In July, 50 students participated in the summer edition of the Science of Baseball programming at the Academy, culminating in them presenting their projects at Globe Life Park in Arlington on July 25.
About the Science of Sport: Since 2014, the Science of Sport has developed various lessons and events that help get kids excited about math and science through application of these principles on sports. In collaboration with MLB teams (Diamondbacks, Angels, Padres, Rockies, Braves, Royals, Phillies, Rangers, Nationals, Astros, Athletics and MLB Youth Academies in New Orleans, Dallas, Kansas City, Washington D.C., and Compton), NBA teams (Dallas Mavericks, Orlando Magic), MLS teams (LA Galaxy, Seattle Sounders, LAFC), and through a partnership with the College Football Playoff Foundation collaborating on the Extra Yard for Teachers initiative. Through these programs, Science of Sport has been able to disseminate our materials to over 1,000 schools throughout the country.
