Mariners sign free agent lefty Zac Rosscup

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that the club has signed free agent left-handed pitcher Zac Rosscup.

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that the club has signed free agent left-handed pitcher Zac Rosscup.
With the addition of Rosscup, Seattle's 40-man roster is now at 38 players. Per club policy, the terms of the contract were not disclosed.
"When healthy, Zac has swing-and-miss stuff, which has translated at all levels." Dipoto said. "We look forward to seeing what he can do with good health and real opportunity."
Rosscup, 30, struck out 20 and walked only 4 while allowing 6 earned runs over 11.1 innings pitched (4.76 ERA) in 17 relief appearances with the Dodgers in 2018. The Clackamas, OR, native held opposing batters to a .209 (9x43) average, including limiting left-handed batters to a slash line of .143/.280/.429. In 10 appearances from Aug. 17-Sept. 25, he struck out 14 in 7.1 scoreless innings while allowing only 3 hits and issuing 2 walks. He began the season in the Rockies organization before being claimed off waivers by the Dodgers on July 11. Rosscup was on the disabled list three times last season: March 29-July 11 (blister on left middle finger), July 25-Aug. 4 (left middle finger inflammation) and Aug. 20-Sept. 1 (left calf strain). He made rehab appearances with Triple-A Albuquerque (COL), High-A Rancho Cucamonga (LAD) and Triple-A Oklahoma City (LAD), combining for a 0.90 ERA (1 ER, 10.0 IP) with 11 strikeouts and 4 walks.
bRosscup was originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 28th round of the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Chemeketa Community College (Salem, OR). The 6-2, 220-pound left-handed reliever is 3-2 with a 5.21 ERA (38 ER, 65.2 IP) and 87 strikeouts in 88 career major league games over 5 seasons with Chicago-NL (2013-15, 2017), Colorado (2017) and Los Angeles-NL (2018). Over 180 career minor league games, he is 18-12 with a 2.56 ERA (89 ER, 312.2 IP) with 381 strikeouts.
